There has definitely been a big shift away from using the infamous 'trailer voice' guy who was so popular throughout the 80's, 90's and some of the 00's. Now instead of a deep voice over in trailers we get what would have been said by trailer voice guy up on the screen as text, or the information is conveyed to us using dialogue from the movie. I wonder when this shift first really started, always loved trailer voice guy and lots of my favourite trailers from the 80's or 90's would be worse off without him/ them. I always remember that hilarious trailer with the guy in the booth doing trailer voice "On an outpost, on the edge of space..." lol.
Does anyone else miss trailer voice? Do we all prefer the current way without a voiceover? Last edited by levcore; 07-16-2015 at 07:36 AM. |

Ads on TV are worse offenders. Instead of a cool VO we get tons of blurbs from reviews supposedly praising the movie and then get like a full screen of awards the movie won at film festivals most moviegoers have never even heard of.

For contemporary trailers, everybody seems to do the black fade out and fade in. So boring. I felt the recent Terminator Genysis trailers actually hurt the movie a bit. If they had been a bit more clever in the trailer campaign it could have helped the movie. I remember how great the Terminator 2 teaser trailer was. No actually footage from the film. Just Arnold's Terminator being assembled ending with the line "I'll be back." Perfect although the subsequent T2 trailers gave away too much as did Genysis. |

In a way I miss it but mostly no because it was typical Hollywood - overuse something until it turns in to a joke. The fact that so many trailers used the same guy shows that there is a real lack of originality in Hollywood -you just find what worked for one movie and copy it for yours.
