Default Warner Getting More Blu!

Warner Getting More Blu
(10/18/2007)
CHRIS TRIBBEY

Warner Home Video is calling it a “titlewave” and it spells nothing but good news for Blu-ray Disc fans.

Blu-ray viewers don’t have access to some Warner 20 titles that are available on HD DVD. But with the announcement of Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines on Blu-ray Dec. 4, there’s hope. The announcement promises “more high-def releases soon” and the Blu-ray of T3 will include an In-Movie Experience, Warner Bros. first picture-in-picture (PIP) BD. The release also includes three commentaries, gag reels, a storyboard comparison, making-of featurettes and an introduction from Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Daniel Silverberg, VP of HD media development for the studio, noted that the T3 Blu-ray is not Blu-ray profile 1.1, the mandated programming required for all Blu-ray players introduced after Oct. 31. Profile 1.1 requires the addition of a second video decoder, allowing for PIP features, and expansion of required memory to 256MB. Both Lionsgate and Disney previously have released Blu-ray discs that allow for some PIP using current BD technology.

“We remain hopeful that Blu-ray hardware manufacturers get Profile 1.1 and BD Live (profile 2.0) players into the market place soon and the user base grows in order for us to deliver the same interactive and connected content on all high-def discs regardless of format,” Silverberg said.

It's ALL good news though.

it shows that Warner very much wants to put out many more titles on Blu especially since they see the trends as well as anyone. They WANT to make more Blu but we need to make it so they can get the special features in there.

Lets get those 1.1 players out there!!!!

if profile 1.1 is not the reason of the delay, then maybe nickerson hold that back.

one title. i think people get a little carried away and start reading into things. speculation gets a lot of assumptions thrown out. need i remind anyone about the whole "warner going exclusive" prank?

This is about much more than "one title" as the article states very clearly.

For some reason they WANT to put he special features in there. If you read the article is clearly states that they WANT to make more BR movies available. Fox had their reasons for holding off apparently so does Warner.

The article has absolutely nothing to do with speculation.
Did you even read it?

This is definitely positive news, but it does give the impression that they are tentative to release back titles until profile 1.1 has come out and enough players are in the marketplace..... I want those movies now, but I can wait... I guess.

"more high definition soon" is a broad term. i tend not to dig or read beyond the SOON part. until official pen and ink announcements are made, i throw this aside as speculation. it announces ONE TITLE... T3... no others by name. and i did not read any statements stating the word "WANT"

Even though I don't care about PiP, and 1.1, I want it now, so that we shut up the Red Ants, and get all of the Warner titles!

What I don't get is that Warner had anounced more titles for Blu ray in Q4 2007 than Q1-Q3 combined.

Where are the titles?
