Default PS3 Hooked up with HDMI signal loss

Just wondering if anyone else has a ps3 hooked up with HDMI if it cuts out in between things. Like if i start a blu-ray it will say no signal for a few seconds then go to the movie. Is this just how it is or possible a hookup problem?

Thanks

mine sometimes cuts off from 1 to 3 seconds during a movie, it really pisses me off when it does that, I wonder if there's a solution to it like turning the ps3 on before turning on the tv or vice versa.

I have the same problem as you Swifty (on a Sony KDS-60A2000).

There doesn't seem to be a rhyme or reason to when it happens either.

It does this because of HDMI "handshake" issues - each HDMI piece of equipment needs to "shake hands" with eachother. The amount of time needed to do this depends on each individual component and typically older equipment is slower. Although if it is handshake issues it should be only/primarily on startup, not in the middle of a movie. Do you have any other equipment in the mix - like a stereo receiver perhaps?

I'm having a wierd problem also with my PS3 connected to an Onkyo 605 via hdmi cable - when I turn off the tv the sound from sacd's cuts out. I gotta have the dang tv on to listen to music. I have a hdmi sending the video out from the 605 to my Sony tv. I posted this in another forum and someone also suggested handshake problems.

If your losing signal in the middle of a movie its probably your HDMI cable id replace it.
ive read other ppl having the SACD issue with PS3 and Onkyo i guess they dont mix well with one another

on another note how's the "popping" dannyjl? im in the market for a receiver and ive been lookin at the 605 but i heard it "pops" a lot even during a movie??

its not in the middle only when i start it or if i end the movie. or if i start a game and quit the game. It also happens sometimes when i start an extra feature on movies.

I have a tricky HDMI issue with my PS3, please bare with me as this is hard to explain. I'll do my best.

To start, PS3's video using HDMI direct to TV (Sharp Aquos). PS3's Audio using Optical to Yamaha Receiver. I can play all movies so far through HDMI fine with sound and everything. Games however I only get a screen flicker or no picture at all. Almost like it tries to constantly connect but never can. The main screen is fine and shows 1080i, but as soon as the game loads and goes to 720P it flickers. I have one game that will play in 1080i and it seems to work. So it seems to be a 720p issue nearest I can tell. Remember 720p works fine with blu-ray movies though.

If I do a reset (hold the on button for 5-7 secs.) it will auto detect the presence of HDMI and I choose 'Yes'. Now it will display everything perfectly just like it should, but no sound because it has also auto selected HDMI for my audio as well. So, as soon as I change the settings in my PS3 to use the optical for audio, I once again go back to a flickering screen for games only. Mind boggling to say the least huh? I have tried 3 different cables and all are the same result. So for now, component it is. I'd like to use the HDMI though because when it does work, it's noticeably better.

Have you tried hooking your PS3 directly to your TV via HDMI? If I had to, I'd guess that your problem is in your receiver.

You need to find a permanent solution for this because there are quite a few games out there that won't internally upscale to 1080i/p from 720p.

My PS3 hooks directly to my TV. The Audio only hooks to my receiver via Optical.

Mmm... sounds like an HDMI handshaking issue then. I don't think the problem is on the PS3 side - more than likely your TV isn't recognizing the 720p correctly from the PS3.

Hard to test unless you've got another HDTV or PS3 handy to test with (do you have any good friends with 720p HDTVs? Try taking your PS3 over to their house, set it up, and restrict it to 720p output over HDMI while running a Blu-ray and again with a PS3 game).

Component may be your only option if the above test indicates the PS3 is sending a 720p signal correctly, since the only other piece that can be screwing up is your TV.

France loss of signal while playing movies on ps3

Hello there ! i searched for this kind of thread and found some , but i wanted to explain my own problem too , cause it's a bit weird !

As many ,i have some signal loss while playing movies (bd,dvd, divx) on my ps3

My ps3 is one year old ! it is linked to an okyo amplifier via hdmi !

The onkyo is linked to a plasma (panasonic)

The sound is from the plasma tv to the onkyo via optical (as the onkyo is just old enough to not be able to make sound pass through hdmi)

So far all was fine , movies of all kind and supports ran well !

Last month i unplugged all the stuff to change my tv furniture !

All was fine again !

But 3 weeks ago i began to have an issue ! At the middle of a movie , or ,most of the time , at the beginning (about 10 minutes) , my tv shows me the big black screen with "No signal" !!

At first i just had to wait a bit and the signal came back , but for about 1 week ago the signal is lost for ever , i have to shut the ps3 down , restart and then all is fine

I made some tests and it 's definitively not coming from the tv or amplifier!

All my settings on the ps3 are the same as ever!

I was wondering if it could come from an update (two since the furniture change) or from an hdmi cable degradation (strange though)

But why at a certain time and why it doesn't occur anymore after a reboot ?

Well if someone has an aswer !! thanks a lot!

(you can aswer in french as i am french )

Did you reset the ps3 by holding down the power button for 5 seconds and wait to hear a beep?

no , i just shutt down it by pressing a brief time , then i wait until everything is quiet and i press power on again !

the ps3 doesn't seem to be stuck in fact : the movie continue to run (as when i resume it after reboot , the movie continued )

though i don't have any control on the movie (it seems) when the signal is lost ! but i can shutt the ps3 normal way (not having to hold the button for 5sec)

You've tried hooking the PS3 directly to the tv and the issue still persists? Have you ruled out both HDMI cables by connecting the PS3 directly to the tv with one cable then the other? Does your Onkyo receiver only have one HDMI in? If not, have you tried using another input? Do you have another device you can try hooking up to the input you currently have the PS3 on your plasma or is there another input you can try?

If all those fail, I'd probably see if you can get the PS3 itself serviced.

the onkyo has 2 or 3 hdmi receivers : the ps3 is linked to the onkyo and from it the main hdmi cable goes to the tv .

Indeed , i didn't try switching imputs to see if it improves . i'll try this ! but i really wonder why suddenly things went wrong and most of all , why after switching the ps3 off and on again the issue goes away for the remain of the movie....

i'll test different imput assignations and different imput plug-in and see if it resolve the issue , thanks !
