Default clearest plasma?..need to find one.

look to give my LCD tv away and pick up a spankin brand new plasma

what i have in mind is a TH-58PZ750
58” 1080p by Panasonic
http://www.panasonic.ca/english/audi...50_58pz750.asp
1080p high-definition panel
1080p Digital processing
Digital re-mastering
c3 Image enhanced
Studio reference mode
Pro setting menu
HDMI with EZsync™ (3 inputs)
PC input (15-pin d-sub)
Photo viewer (SDHC)
MPEG2/AVCHD playback (SD card)
Smart sound speaker system
Energy star® qualified

i need something to put me in a entrancement and when i keep viewing "greys" in dark scenes of movies it takes the "wow" factor away.

LCD = pefect for gaming.

6I had the 50" model, and I was very satisfied, but I returned it for my 65"... Don't get me wrong I loved it, but I got offered a great deal after I had bought the 50". The black levels are possibly the best I've seen, but they can crush a little bit. If you can afford it go for the new pioneers, if not then I would say that Panasonic is a very close 2nd. I too agree about the grey blacks on an LCD, I had a Sharp D92 52" and I returned it partly because of the black levels... among other things of course, and this was supposed to be their high end TV.

to be honest starting from dim lighting and up the lcd's "appear" to have better blacks due to reflections distracting the plasma's

So, is the Panasonic an LCD or Plasma set?

That Panasonic is excellent. The only difference compared to the one I have is that the 750U has a screen saver feature. That is about it. I have seen the new Pioneer 1080P plasmas, and I was less than impressed. The blu-ray looked incredible (as usual) but watching HD directTV did not looking that sharp. I am a big fan of what Panasonic does. The Pioneers are a solid set, pricey, but solid.

there were a few other differences the panasonic seminar told me about heh but i forget most. but also one is that the sd card can read hd video now instead of just pictures on the 700

Yes you are right. The 750 also has 3 hdmi's and the 700 2. I have not had a problem with that because my receiver does hdmi pass through so I can use 3 hdmi devices. Either way, the picture quality difference is minimal. If you can I would go with the 750U - I just got a killer deal on mine so I had to go with the 700.

That picture is using an old Panasonic plasma, not a new one.

The 50" and 58" 700U series have black levels off most devices measuring capabilities.

http://hdguru.com/?p=100

Gary Merson tests the TH-50PZ750

Quote:
The TH-50PZ750 properly deinterlaces 1080i signals into progressive, maintaining all 1080 lines. This was confirmed using the HQV test disc. Measuring brightness levels within Vivid (dealer showroom) mode maxed out at a blazing 57.5 ft lamberts. With the user controls (Custom mode) adjusted properly, maximum brightness came in at 22 ft. lamberts. This is quite bright for normal in-home lighting conditions. Black level was too low to measure accurately with my test equipment; in fact it was the lowest of any plasma I have tested to date. (This is not a contradiction, I know the spec of my meter’s accuracy and this panel was significantly below that level). The high brightness and low black level create a high contrast ratio, which was evident during viewing evaluations.
Quote:
The TH-50PZ750 placed side by side with the Pioneer PRO-FHD1 made for an interesting comparison. How did the Panasonic’s image look? In a word: WOW. The overall picture quality excelled in reproducing dark and bright level details with a high contrast ratio.

The TH-50PZ750’s color accuracy was the best I have seen on a plasma display and it was the only panel evaluated that produces a true red. Comparing the Pioneer when viewing The Fast and Furious Tokyo Drift on HD DVD clearly showed the difference between Panasonic red and Pioneer red. The same car is red on the TH-50PZ750 and orange on the Pioneer. Ditto for the neon signs and lights of the Ginza in Tokyo at night, where red lights appear crimson versus Pioneer’s orange-y reds. Speaking of night scenes, the Panasonic’s deeper blacks revealed details that the Pioneer (and other plasmas) obscured, as if a veil had been lifted off the Pioneer’s panel.

Jay Leno’s blue sport jacket’s pinstripes provided a fine example of the Panasonic’s superior image. Both panels reproduced the pinstripes; but they were more distinct on the TH-50PZ750. The effect is not subtle; five friends performed the side-by-side tests with a variety of source material. They all picked the Panasonic as the best panel.

In conclusion, the Panasonic TH-50PZ750 is simply the best high definition display I have ever reviewed. With a retail of $3999 and an expected street price that will be even lower, I would also consider it a bargain.
It is currently $4699 for the 58" 750U but only $3499 for the 58" 700U.
The only difference between the two is that the 700U doesn't have Cinema Reference Mode which allows for enhanced gamma level adjustments. Merson states "(A color analyzer or spectral radiometer and a great deal of know how are required to make use of these controls.)"

The 50" 700U is down to $2199 on Amazon!

The 50" Kuro from Pioneer is $3495 with $225 shipping from Plasma Concepts. The advantages of the Panasonic are 24Hz input and 72Hz display rate, allowing for 3:3 pulldown.

Other than that, there will not be any discernable differences in black levels.

I think that Pioneer Panasonic pic is a crock. I know Panasonics do NOT look that screwed up.

If the Pioneer looks as good as everyone says, then hell yeah it would be the best. However, if it's only marginal - I would not waste my money.

I think I will go look at them now. See for myself.

Pioneer has best quailty of plasma because that is the only technology they make, but as said before, they are pricey. Panasonics come in a close second, but are probably better value.

Ok, just got back in from Best Buy.

I have learned the following..

1 - Best Buy ****ing blows. They had only 2 full 1080p plasmas. One was a Panasonic 58/60 inch and the other was a Samsung 48 I think. The rest were freaking 720p panels. WTF?

2 - I despise Samsungs new "frames" for their panels. They look god awful and wtf is up with that greenish blue led light on them now? What happened to the true blue light? Samsung, what the hell did you do??

3 - The Panasonic 1080P panel I could not judge. It was playing some stupid SDVD and the picture was OK. I wanted to see it in 1080P.

4 - The 720P Pioneers - looked FANTASTIC. They were the clearest panels on display. Even for being 720P only. The frame on them is smooth and simple. Kinda like Samsungs before they screwed it up. Really wanted to see these in 1080P but they did not have any on display.

5 - Saw a couple of LCD's that looked pretty good. However, they did have the problem of viewing angles. They did look good though.

As of now, it would be between the Panasonic and the Pioneer. I would need to see them hooked up and showing a 1080p connection before I made the decision. If based on money - the Panasonic. If based on video might be Pioneer.
