Default HD DVD now has a (red laser) recordable standard

From CDRinfo.com:

"The DVD Forum on Sep 12 approved the introduction of another extension of the HD DVD format, which allows HD DVD Format content to be stored on red-laser recordable Discs."

RED LASER??? Talk about forward thinking. Talk about a finished standard.
How many current hd-dud players will be able to read these discs?

Please let's NOT start seeing people here starting to jump off cliffs about this.
