Default PS3 To Dominate By 2009

DFC Intelligence Forecasts Video Game Market to Reach $47 Billion by 2009
SAN DIEGO --(Business Wire)-- Sep. 18, 2007 According to a series of new reports from DFC Intelligence the worldwide video game and interactive entertainment industry is expected to grow from about $33 billion in 2006 to as much as $47 billion in 2009. This forecast includes revenue from video game hardware and software, dedicated portable system hardware and software, PC games, and online PC and console games.

The report forecasts strong growth in all major categories, including PC games. DFC Intelligence forecasts that the PC game market will grow to over $13 billion by 2012. Much of this growth will come from online game revenue, including subscriptions, advertising and digital distribution.

DFC also is looking at continued strong performance for the portable game market. "Revenue from portable game software has more than doubled in recent years and we think that the Nintendo DS could eventually become the best selling game system ever in five years," says DFC analyst David Cole.

The biggest area of uncertainty remains the performance of the three video game console systems: the Sony PlayStation 3, the Nintendo Wii and the Microsoft Xbox 360. DFC forecasts the market using three different scenarios and estimates that combined cumulative worldwide sales for the three systems will reach between 180 to 210 million units by 2012. The biggest issue is the performance for the individual systems.

In all scenarios, DFC has raised its forecast for the Wii and the PlayStation 3 and lowered its forecast for the Xbox 360. According to Cole, "The Xbox 360 will need to build a strong base outside North America to avoid being in a fairly distant third." DFC forecasts that the Wii will be the strongest system through at least 2008. However, the PlayStation 3 could start coming on strong in 2009. "We could have a situation where the Wii sells more hardware units, but by 2012 the PlayStation 3 is generating more software revenue," says Cole.

want to know why..this is just one of the reasons why

EXAMPLE:
http://www.destroyallhumansgame.com/

whats rather telling is this:
both of these two NEW releases with work ON THE PLAYSTATION 3
and a 3rd for the PSP...

NOTICE THE XBOX360 , AND THE Wii get one or the other but not both
there a quite a few popular game franchise's that the playstation 2 will continue to get and that also means the playstation 3 user can pick up those same NEW RELEASED games AS WELL. so when a NEW RELEASE playstation 2 game comes out. how many of those COPY'S are picked up by a playstation 3 user...?

the fact that with a playstation 3 you can get both and play on one system is not only this franchise but others also. this is just one of the reasons why the playstation 2 is still supported to keep that fact fresh in people's mind you can upgrade and bring your back catalog games NEW AND OLD along for the new system to play those games on.

I think March 08 as soon as Metal Gear hits it should dominate the console market a lot of the huge games for X Box 360 are first person shooters.

With that philosophy, why buy any gaming system? I mean you could die before you could even finish a game. You could die before you got back home with the game you just purchased. Only living for today is a little out there.

This business has NEVER been about today. It's been about tomorrow. Think about it. Would gaming systems be sold for a loss, if this business was only about today?

I think only people that don't understand how this industry's business works make statements like that. I mean otherwise, why would a person think that Sony is NOT doing what it can...when it can...to improve customer satisfaction? Do you think they don't know that customer satisfaction improves sales? I think Sony customers have been spoiled (especially PS3 owners). We forget sometimes that we don't have to live on Red Ring Island anymore. It's like Survivor but with 360s. I don't like THAT game.

I said ALL of that to simply say this...battles take time to win. Therefore, calm down and enjoy ALL that functionalities the PS3 has. I am.

BTW, just in case you didn't know, there should be 105 games for the PS3 by the end of March 2008 (I think 12 are 1st party titles). If you can't find a few titles out of that you like, you can't be a gamer.

Recently the 360 hasn't been a very great console. After I got mine back from Microsoft(It broke, surprise), I bought Bioshock.
It was easily beaten in a few hours, something they held against Heavenly Sword, but not Bioshock. While the games' environments looked nice, there was like 4 types enemies in the game and it got boring at times. The plasmid system is a glorified magic system as well. Needless to say, I traded mine in for a reserve on Halo 3. I'd rather give Gamespot more money than Microsoft if I have to.

I have two inputs on my HDTV, one for HD cable and the other for my PS3. Really though, I'm looking forward to the PS3's lineup.

Final Fantasy
Little Big Planet
Eternal Sonata(Would sell better on PS3. Gosh durn rednecks hate ar pee gees)

I'm also a fan of the Metal Gear series. I had bought Subsistence and it made me cry at the end.

Beautiful, isn't it?

quantity doesn mean quality bud.... remember that and we culd de today tomorrow probably in 20 years but the point is that sony has giving future dates for the success they supposed gonna have with the ps3...
and talking about consola battles im into that stuff personally i dont care which one wins.. i own both 360 and ps3 if i like a game from ps3 i bought it and viceversa

take care

It's always good to hear positive news about PS3. Glad to see it is gaining a little momentum. I think we all knew that it would be the superior system in the end, but it would be nice to get there sooner rather than later. Hopefully the exclusive titles and games that take full advantage of the Cell will pick up here in the next year or so.

Love that FF image... damn that game is going to be awesome. I'm still playing through FFXII because I stopped playing games for a while. Not as good as X, but still pretty fun. FFXIII is shaping up to be the best of the series to date.

Having said that, I am seriously thinking about buying an Xbox360 elite or Halo 3 edition. Not for Halo 3, but for MASS EFFECT! that game looks great, and the facts that it's being made by the same team responsible for Knights of the Old Republic and Jade Empire... well... enough said.
