I just hope they add PS3 streaming at the same time.

It also gives me hope that Hulu (and Hulu Plus) might come here.

yah but the question how do we get around our overpriced crappy rogers or bell internet, with the low caps.

Wonder if rogers will throttle netflix bandwidth now.

I was just reading bout this on IGN. I think it will be in fall. The main thing they were talking bout is that the PS3 will no longer need the Netflix disc in a couple months.

Rogers reduces bandwidth caps just in time for Netflix streaming

on the other hand:

Videotron ups bandwidth caps on basic internet service

Users will only be able to stream movies.

Still no word on PS3 streaming.

Default Netflix launches in Canada today: streaming only service for C$7.99 per month

http://www.engadget.com/2010/09/22/n...-for-7-99-per/

Quote:
With no discs available at all, the only option is a $7.99 Canadian ($7.80 US) plan for streaming that works on PCs, PS3, Wii, iOS family and many other devices -- interestingly the Xbox 360, Samsung TVs, and Blu-ray players from VIZIO or Insignia are off the compatible list until later this fall. Content availability also seems to be different for our neighbors to the north (English only for now, French is on the way Quebec), with the Netflix blog specifically calling out Superbad and Mad Men as up for streaming, which aren't currently available on Watch Instantly in the US.

I browsed their catalog a bit and honestly couldn't find anything I wanted to watch. Everything I searched for said it was not available. If they could pick up some more popular TV shows (Glee, Big Bang Theory, Spartacus, True Blood just to name a few) it might be worthwhile, but for now I don't think it's even worth the few clicks it would take me to try out their free trial. Hopefully the selection improves because I think the service itself is a great idea and $7.99 is a reasonable price.

Unfortunately, the timing is less than ideal, too. All of the fall shows are starting up now which is going to give me 10+ hours of viewing a week so I'm not really looking for anything more to watch right now. Maybe by the time this season of shows is over, they will have improved their selection and I'll give it a try then.

This is nice! It's true there's not a lot of TV Shows, but at least there's Heroes season 3 and 4 to watch while I'm waiting for more.

Is it possible that we have a poor selection because we are on a free trial? If you search for a specific title it says "not available", but since it's in the database, I'm wondering if it will become available once we subscribe.

I noticed after my latest firmware update on a Samsung HTIB 6530 that I can now download a netflix widget. But, when I attempt to load it, I just get a black screen. Is that because this is the USA version of Netflix?

I too looked through the Canadian catalogue, nothing worth watching really. I bet the CRTC is to blame for this as Canadians are always forced garbage channels to be included with real networks. That and Canadians don't get the good channels the Americans do.

My free trial ended on Saturday so I am now on a regular subscription, and there are definitely more titles available. Nothing spectacular though.

More titles available when you're actually paying? Interesting, maybe I'll pay for 1 month to get an actual trial version. Bad move by Netflix, I thought the 1 month trial was actually representative of what I'd get...so I was going to cancel (like everyone else).

Netflix now has a streaming only option. You can get it (According to engadget) for a dollar cheaper on Chrome for some reason than most other browsers...

$7.99 a month.

That's coming to US too. They're trying to get rid of DVD by mail.

Ya that's what I have. The selection (at least in PS3 netflix) is terrible though...Stereomike is saying that once your free trial ends and you start paying for the service, the selection gets better. That's what I'm hoping for, so I'll pay for 1 month to get an indicative trial version.
