Who would buy this? We know there's definitely going to be more "Fantastic Beasts" movies, this thing's basically a guarantee the series is going to look weird on a shelf eventually.

Warner did the same thing after each Potter film; a new set with the latest movie that looks incomplete in the end.

I guess they must sell.

The UK is getting this too, but their set appears to be much better. It's 17 discs, rather than just the 9 movie discs, and includes the 8-part Documentary series that originally came with the Ultimate Editions, and last year with the individual re-releases. Plus it's much cheaper (about $61 shipped). Maybe the US one has them too?

Tragic irony or poetic justice, you tell me.

Are the HP films from 4k masters or the same old 2009 discs? I'm interested in 1-4 as I have fond memories of them and don't care for the rest.

The amazon.com page for this shows that it includes UltraViolet. But seeing no evidence of that on the front or back covers or the blu-ray.com listing, I assume this is just a mistake on the Amazon site. Can anyone confirm?

Almost complete box sets are a thing. Look at GOT. Some suckers must be buying them.

It's one thing to just release tv/film series as they progress and at least with HP, they were working forward and just including the latest each time it was out.. but this will be a prequel of sorts and then skip the other 4 FB films they plan to do, and then have 8 films for another franchise, even if they're related. Just seems weird.

The BBC also releases these in the UK. I imported a DVD set of Being Human Series 1 and 2 when the home video releases weren't released in the US yet. (Later I won them on Blu-Ray in a Twitter giveaway from BBC America. So now I own Series 1-2 on R2 DVD, 3-5 on R1 DVD, and all five on Region A Blu-Ray.)

Basically it offers a way to buy the complete series (so far) so you can get it all in one go and begin collecting regularly with the next individual release.

Not trying to come across as standoffish or anything but I find this an odd question. My obvious answer would be people who don't already own them all on blu ray.

It may be hard to believe to some, but people discover movies at different points in time for different reasons. Be it a matter of how old they are or the fact that they weren't interested when they were first released, or were deployed overseas and unable to see the films etc. (it could be any number of things).

Or it could just be that someone didn't have a blu ray player and now that they do they will pick up this set. It's hard for the users on here to imagine people being so behind technologically but it does also happen.

This is not what he was trying to address, though. While I agree this is dedicated to those who never bought any of the HP films in blu-ray and now can get them along with the first FB, I think what he meant was that it is an incomplete set, and what makes it incomplete is the fact that includes one of the several FB movies Warner is going to release.

Most collectors have a big issue with having an incomplete set only to find themselves continuing their collection with separate singles. I know I do.
I wish I didn't, though lol. That said, I think non-collectors would be more than happy with owning this. It is simple, cheap and includes all the movies released until now. For a completist or long-time collector, not so much.

Since I don't own any Harry Potter movies or Fantastic Beasts, this looks good. But the completionist in me would feel very strange having this sitting on my shelf.

Are the extended cuts of the first two films included with this set?

The image of the back side in this thread would say yes.
