I'm curious to find out what the 'PSN Pass' is all about though.

I'm hoping Sony will release the white and silver models outside of Japan soon. Black/white/silver for $199 = WIN.

They eventually released the other colors for the PS2 (although now I think you can only buy the black model), so I'm somewhat hopeful that they'll do it... within the next couple of years.

don't worry. that 3D Monitor comes with Resistance 3. Probably the only way I'd be getting the game...Not out of lack of interest though.

Is Sony following the trail blazed by Electronic Arts and other third-party publishers by limiting who has access to its online multiplayer? That’s our best guess for what the new, still-unannounced PSN Pass is, a feature rumoured to have made its first appearance on the Resistance 3 PS3 bundle.

The unconfirmed PSN Pass was spotted by members of the German video game forum Konsolentreff, which offers little into the way this new addition functions, other than to warn that “Network features only available in countries that have PlayStation Store”.

If I were guessing, though, since Sony Computer Entertainment hasn’t yet responded to requests for comment, I’d guess that PSN Pass is a scheme not unlike EA’s Online Pass, which grants online access to those who either purchase a new copy of a game or those who pay the extra 10 bucks to buy their way into networked features. THQ copied that idea, as did Mortal Kombat publisher Warner Bros.

We don’t yet know if PSN Pass is real, whether it’s more than just an online access code or whether Resistance 3, due in early September, will be the first game to implement such a scheme, but we’ve asked SCEA for comment on the rumour.

I'd rather it be more like Rockstar's pass (flat rate for all DLC), but I'm going to assume it's like EAs (pay to play online).
I'm just going to stop playing games with any online trophies if the gaming industry keeps this up

As with digital copies included w/ blu-rays I've bought used, I'm not all that worried. Friends and I have picked up games at my local Mega Media Exchange (Dead Space 2 and Mortal Kombat, specifically), that included unused Online Passes. The funny thing is, MME additionally discounts used games that include OPs by $10, so even if the OP has been used already, you aren't getting significantly gouged (relatively speaking).

I don't play online anyway, so this kind of stuff won't affect me personally. I still don't like the idea of them doing this, but I understand their reasoning.

I buy every game new but PSN Pass doesn't sound like much fun (if the rumors are true).

This is seriously lame. If you buy this game used, rent it, or want to play on another account, you'll have to spend $10 to unlock the online portion.

It's disappointing to see such a thing happening but from a business standpoint, they're trying to increase revenue they lose from all the people not buying new, which post (yeah right!) recession people tend to buy used.

I still think a better strategy would be for these corporate buffoons to set up online stores & directly sell them to Joe6pack. It takes out the retailers from the equation to an extent, reduced overheads via distribution from warehouses a lá Amazon thus increasing revenues.

Or is it this is just easier to implement & Joe6pack will have no choice?

I just wish companies took the extra step for long term customer satisfaction rather than the bankers method of a quick buck.

I personally dont have a problem with them doing it.

I dont like their overall attitude towards the used market because trade-ins are often used to purchase new games.

WHat I am getting tired of are all of these retailer exclusive pre-order bonuses.
