Early sources indicate that Skyfall (Sam Mendes, 2012) will be released on home video on March 12, 2013.
I've seen the movie in both IMAX and a regular theater. The IMAX ratio is approximately 1.90:1 (constant, not variable like The Dark Knight, The Dark Knight Rises, Mission Impossible Ghost Protocol, etc.). The regular version is 2.39:1. I think the movie looks gorgeous either way, but the IMAX version was really breathtaking. I saw it in a real IMAX theater as well, not one of those Digital Liemaxes. Do you want to see both versions on Blu-ray? The director and cinematographer have said that they framed shots with both aspect ratios in mind. If you're interested in seeing the IMAX version on Blu-ray, we should probably e-mail EON, Sony, MGM, and Fox to let them know that we want to have the two viewing options. admin@eon.co.uk consumer@SPHECustomerSupport.sony.com http://www.foxconnect.com/contacts/ Last edited by blu-ray_girl_fan; 11-22-2012 at 06:07 PM. |

I'm in Austin this week, which has a huge IMAX screen at the Bob Bullock Museum. The largest IMAX screen in Dallas is only about half the size of the Bob Bullock screen. I'll go see Skyfall at the Bob Bullock again before I leave town.

I'd rather see the scope version. Just feels more right for a Bond movie.

It was perfectly composed in 2,4:1. I can't imagine watching open matte version of all these stunning shots.

I don't mind having both, but if I had to choose only one, then 2.40:1. I've seen both the regular and IMAX versions and there's a lot of extra headroom in the latter. Not quite as distracting as those open matte transfers of Kubrick films(before Blu-ray came along), but clearly the 2.40:1 framing is the way this movie was meant to be seen.

To have a bond movie (heavy action movies now) not be in scope when it was theatrically this way would be really poor decision making. The IMAX framing has to be secondary in the equation. It wont be a matter of which framing, it will be whether the IMAX ratio will be supplied as an alternative. Which means two discs. Last edited by Nicky and Sue; 11-20-2012 at 05:47 AM. |

The film was definitely composed for 2.40, so while I'd love an IMAX version, I won't be disappointed if there isn't one. I was with Prometheus, but that film's open matte shots were much less noticeable, and I was more concerned about the 3D(though the film looks excellent even when it's not open-matte).
With this film, it was a bit more noticeable that there was a LOT of extra headroom in every shot. I won't feel like I'm missing much in 2.40 since everything that needs to be seen is in the frame. I was much more disappointed in how MI: Ghost Protocol didn't have an IMAX version. Even though they were composed for 2.40, those IMAX shots still looked cropped on the Blu-ray and I actually do feel like I'm missing something. |
