Default Would Warner's decision only be affected by buying discs from the US alone?

I am wondering where to buy my Warner Discs, either here in the UK or import from US ? I want to help Blu kick HD-DUD ass, but if I only buy from here in the UK, it may not help Blu, if Warner only look at the numbers in the US. Can anyone help me on this, and where is the best place to buy, so numbers are tracked. I usually buy from Ebay, Play.com and Amazon.co.uk and Amazon.com?

That's a good question, seeing as the ratings are for U.S. only, and they keep talking about 2-1 margin when the rest of the world seems to be pro-blu also.

With Japan est 90% blu, Australia i've heard is about 90% blu, and Europe pro blu, I wonder what the numbers REALLY are.

A Blu-ray disc is a Blu-ray disc no matter where it's purchased just like a HD-DVD disc remains that no matter where it's purchased. It may screw the Nielsen stats but not Warner's. As there is no region encoding all Blu disc's are most probably the same with minor changes to the cover to conform to local regulations. I would suggest that Warner would be more interested in profit margin than locale.

I don't know what the actual numbers are in Australia, but I have seen a total of 2 Red ones for sale (different titles) and Many many hundreds of Blu ones (including duplicate titles). In the two stores I buy from, the shelf space just keeps growing for Blu. From various forums over here I get the impression most red disc's are imported from the US, so the Video Scan figures maybe weighted in HD-DVD's favour, which means that a 2:1 ratio for the so called US market maybe closer to 3:1 if international sales were subtracted (both sides). This will be more the case when FOX starts pushing out titles as they region encode everything. So only US and few others will buy in the US all region B have to purchase elsewhere.

Well looks like I can purchase anywhere to help Blu-Ray blow HD-DVD out of the water, and help convince Warner, Blu-ray is the way to go.

Default Cost

I am also in the UK & to be honest I buy most of my discs from Amazon.com because of the costs involved.
For example I recently bought Disturbia - cost $27
I also bought The Island in the UK - cost £25 ($50) almost twice the cost !

So if I were you I would buy as many discs as you can from the USA it works out 2 for 1 at UK prices & Amazon.com are very good.

Wow, your "Blu" patriotism is great. I'd buy from whereever you can get the best price. Don't worry about Nielsen.

yeah they ship to the UK.

the way i work is to buy any disc thats not region locked form the USA. If its region locked it comes from the UK.

personaly i think its a good idea to buy from the usa as thats the main market. If the USA maintains its Blu dominance, then the majour studios will base any changes on how its doing there. the rest of the regions tend to come second in the decision making.

blu wins in the USA, it wins everywhere.

also most euro HD-DVD fans seem to import, well its much cheaper to buy from the usa, so i do my bit to counter this move.

lol...so that's how we have a 2 to 1 margin in the US, most HD-DVDs are import from the US to the rest of the world.

It would be nice to see a world wide sale chart.

exactly, every HDdvd fan i know imports from the USA via Amazon (boosts the figures for HDDVD as well, infact some of the euro forums urge supporters to buy there HDDVDs this way).

Shame neilson cant remove imports from the figures, i reckon there would be quite a dip.

The war is in the US, like it or not is the only market that matters in this

So yes, buying discs from US retailers, if you buy online buy Amazon, is what counts

To help as of this moment you have to buy from Amazon.com. It is probably the politically incorrect thing to say but the numbers WB will be watching are those coming from the US markets. Elsewhere the war is already a non-issue.
