Is it just me, or are other movie fans equally disappointed in the once innovative filmmaker, Robert Zemeckis??
I have recently re-watched "Contact", which is such a fantastic film, and just finished watching "Forrest Gump", easily one of the sweetest, saddest, and most heartfelt films IMHO. The original Back to the Future is pretty much pitch perfect. "Death Becomes Her" was genius as well. "What Lies Beneath" didn't do much for me, because I am not into that genre, and I have yet to see "Cast Away". But "The Polar Express", "Beowulf", and "A Christmas Carol" with his "performance" capture were completely heartless, and the digital animation is as horrible as the stories IMHO. Quote: Zemeckis is an avid supporter of 3-D Digital Cinema, and has stated that, starting with the 3-D presentations of Beowulf, all of his future films will be done in 3-D using digital motion capture. He has reportedly backed away from that statement and has said that the decision to use 3-D will be on a film-by-film basis. End of Quote http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Zemeckis I think that's just sad, because he was one of the best storytellers in Hollywood. The only thing great about A Christmas Carol were Jim Carrey's performances. Why the hell would he only want to make that animated nonsense? Did he make a deal with the devil, and now he is only allowed to make this sort of movie?? Does he own the company that does the animation, and he wants to keep the animators employed?? Does anyone knows the true reasons? I am frankly startled. Don't get me wrong. I love technology, and I love CGI, when used well. Rango, for instance, is animation done right. It feels real. It looks real, and it's innovative. I hope he will make a "live" action film again. I am sad that we may have lost a truly great filmmaker. ![]() ![]() Do you share my sentiments?
