Default X-Men and Blu-ray advertised on Star Wars official site

http://starwars.com/episode-iv/relea...s20061120.html

Okay it's not Star Wars itself, but pretty cool to see a Blu-ray ad on a "Lucas Online website."

This will be on a 2 Blu-ray disc set with DTS-HD Master Audio.
Disc 1: Star Wars Trilogy Episodes IV-VI (150GB 6 layer Blu-ray disc)
Disc 2: Star Wars Trilogy Episodes I-III (150GB 6 layer Blu-ray disc)

Because Blu-ray rules.

Yes, I thought the smiley would have given away that it was a joke.
It will be interesting to see though, now that TDK have made 6 layer Blu-ray discs, if the specs will be upped to either 4 or 6 25GB layers. I wouldn't think there would be any ramifications in the hardware specs if they kept the per layer specs the same.
They are, after all, thinking about upping the data rate to 288 Mbps.

Aren't you confusing recordables (BD-R/RE) with replication (BD-Video)? 288 Mbps is 8x. Which is definitely on the road map for recordables.

Well I read on AVS that you could actually make movie Blu-rays with more than 40 Mb/s bitrate for video, but that no player's decoder was rated for more than that at the moment!
The bitrate used for the Aladdin/Hitchiker/Flightplan/Narnia demo seemed to be filmkiller enough for me on first viewing

For every media, according to the FAQ.
https://www.blu-ray.com/faq/
Quote:
1.7 How fast can you read/write data on a Blu-ray disc?

According to the Blu-ray Disc specification, 1x speed is defined as 36Mbps. However, as BD-ROM movies will require a 54Mbps data transfer rate the minimum speed we're expecting to see is 2x (72Mbps). Blu-ray also has the potential for much higher speeds, as a result of the larger numerical aperture (NA) adopted by Blu-ray Disc. The large NA value effectively means that Blu-ray will require less recording power and lower disc rotation speed than DVD and HD-DVD to achieve the same data transfer rate. While the media itself limited the recording speed in the past, the only limiting factor for Blu-ray is the capacity of the hardware. If we assume a maximum disc rotation speed of 10,000 RPM, then 12x at the outer diameter should be possible (about 400Mbps). This is why the Blu-ray Disc Association (BDA) already has plans to raise the speed to 8x (288Mbps) or more in the future.

Didn't somebody (I think TDK) come out with a 200GB BD?

33.5GB/layer 6 layered disc.
They tested it, but it's not a production disc yet.
It would likely only be used for BD-R and BD-RW discs. If the BDA were to increase the capacity at all they would need to use 25GB/layer to allow for current players to function. So 150GB disc should be possible with firmware upgrades to the players.

No, no, no, you don't understand Lucas.

The first release will be 6 BD-25 disks, one for each ep.

Then a few years later, he'll release 6 BD-50s and throw in a few extras to fill up the space.

He's gotta milk that cow for all that it's worth.

Boy, I wish.

Any kind of title like Star Wars is the kind of shock and awe that BD needs to finish this thing off fast and with authority.

I know the talk is that the studio want to make sure they can put out discs with BD-J and all the other bells and whistles and really "do it right" but I really feel like they missed an oppurtunity this past Christmas to sneak out a few more nukes and start really icing this thing away.

Things are "good-really good" in some instances even now, but I want to see it get up to "OMG GREAT!!!! " across the boards ASAP.
