Default The Flintstones possibility or just a pipe dream?

Anyone think the classic cartoon will ever be released on Blu Ray? I never did get any of the DVD's but if they were on Blu Ray I think I would make an effort to get the original series. I wouldn't mind also having the FIRST movie with John Goodman and Rick Moranis but want nothing to do with that horrible sequel.

And don't post any of that "it's not HD, or it was or wasn't on film" I don't care if it is 1080p video or 480p just as long as it is the best quality they can manage.

I am not sure if they might be able to put the original series on Blu-ray

I would love that to happen. I remember seeing the John Goodman film as a child when I was 4 and watching endlessly. Alongside the Star Wars prequels, the live-action movie of The Flinstones is the most over-criticized film ever, it is just simple mindless fun and John Goodman is amazing as Fred.

Any reason why? Legal issues, no good source for a decent transfer? Just not likely because it's not HD? I mean if you have a reason what is it? I am just curious because if there is no hope I'd like to know cuz then I can go back to looking for the DVD's to turn up at an affordable price.

Not to mention the last theatrical release to feature a little-known actress called Elizabeth Taylor.

I think we'll see Flintstones on Blu sooner or later - it is an awfully cute and well-done film and I sure would purchase it on Blu.

That's why you weren't the one quoted. As far as the series goes, I don't see why they can't release it on BD. It's one of the most popular Hanna-Barbera cartoons and Warner released the whole thing on DVD so it's definitely high profile enough to warrant a BD release. And if they go back to the original elements, they could be beautiful and legit HD releases.

I know it wasn't directed at me I was just saying how I started a thread about the show and every post was about the movie. It was kinda funny to me not really trying to be rude or anything about it.

I don't know about The Flintstones, but according to IMDb, the original elements of other Hanna-Barbera cartoons like The Jetsons and The Smurfs were 35mm film negatives and printed film format, meaning that a genuinely good HD transfer for those is actually possible. If all Hanna-Barbera shows were on film then I'm sure it's possible to upgrade The Flintstones to HD. Whether Warner will do it or not is another matter, but I hope they will at some point.
