I wasn't all that crazy about the announced UHD format when I first read about it, but now I'm just looking at the practical issues.
I just bought a 2015 4K set (LG 8500 series), so that's going to be fine I assume. I have a launch PS4, but I've heard that it doesn't support the latest HDMI spec (?). Not sure about the BD drives in those units as well, can it read more than two layers? Sony needs to work towards releasing 2TB PS4s that have been quietly updated for all the new UHD specs. Many people would update their units now just for more disc space alone (which you could do on your own, except it gets you nowhere with regards to UHD). I don't really want to buy and make room for a separate UHD player, but I would be more than willing to trade in my PS4 at GameStop and pony up a $150 more for a new unit with larger drive + UHD support. I've held off upgrading my HDD for this exact reason... |
