Default Why slander/belittle HD DVD here?

I see terms like HD DUD often and see lots of people belittling HD DVD. Why not just discuss BD? HD DVD is also a great format and should be welcomed by the HDM fan. Nothing wrong with two kids playing in the sandbox.

Be a HDM fan not a format fanboy.

I agree with you on the "HD DUD" type stuff. It is very childish and gets old quick just like "blur-ray" and the like on HD DVD sites.

However I fully disagree on HD DVD being a great format and being welcomed by this HDM fan. HD DVD is doing nothing but dumbing down the HDM format and stinting any chance HDM has in gaining mass market appeal. There is no room in this sandbox for two formats. One format only.

Haven't been here long have you?

HD DVD is the reason why HD media may become a small niche product.
There is no reason for it to exist other than make money for Toshiba. It's the reason why I won't be playing Transformers on my PS3 this fall. It's simply bad for business.

For one it would be libel not slander...

...but for most of the members here, at least the ones who have been here for longer than the past couple of months, are really doing nothing more than stating facts. Also most often when something gets written about HD-DVD it is in response to some troll who came over here to preach HD-DVD on this Blu-ray fan site.

As the old saying goes" If you can't run with the big dogs, stay on the porch."
As you may have noticed it does say blu-ray.com in the left hand corner on your screen, Thats probably why these discussions happen. You wouldnt go to a democratic convention to show you support for a republican.
The bottom line is "The truth must really hurt, must eat at you to hear all the good things that blu ray has and HD DUD tries to offer. Really hurts, doesn't it?....lol,

Guys I think this troll got lost on their way to see the fairy godmother, or whatever nursery ryhme hero they idolize.

HDDUD is pretty soft compared to what the HDDVD fanboys waste their time with, like going on review sites and writing up obscene false reviews. Besides, alot of pro Blu-Ray consumers have both HDDVD and Blu-Ray players. They're choosing a preferred format, just like how people have preferred colors and foods, get over it.

Well if you go visit an HD-DVD forum, or an over-run AVS, you will see a lot of slander aimed at Blu-Ray, so it's not just one way traffic. HD-DVD fanboys can't fire and expect not to receive something back. And I agree with another post here, Toshiba know for a fact that HD-DVD is an inferior product, but still won't just give up, let Blu-ray be the dominant format, and allow it to go head to head with DVD. This is the reason HDM won't be become the next gen format, anytime soon, whilst there is this war going on, duw to Toshiba and M$ arrogance.

But if you think about it, this is like war of attrition. In school, I was taught that two warring factions would sit on opposite sides of a castle wall, and those who had the most resources would end up winning. The army that ran out of food had to surrender. Sony is the underdog, but if we feed it, it can defeat Toshiba.
That's the consumer(irony) factor.

It's not really arrogance, it's just a bet they wanted to take to drain resources.

Personally I find your use of the term "fanboy" offensive. I do not view that word as being endearing. I have seen it used numerous times as a derrogatory term.

You are saying we should be nice to a format but mean to people?

You are wrong and naive (showing or characterized by a lack of sophistication and critical judgment).

HD DVD is not a great format. It is, however, a competing format that has absolutely no use in the marketplace (falling prices would have happened without HD DVD anyway). HD DVD has two major supporters, Microsoft and Toshiba. Neither of those organisations really want packaged HD media to succeed - especially MS who have their downoad agenda to pursue. The only purpose of HD DVD is to slow down the growth of the HDM market and stop Blu-ray becoming a mass market format.

Posts like yours show that HD DVD are doing a good job with their propaganda.

A TRUE fan of HDM will know that for a new disc-based format to gain mass market adoption (leading to lots of great HD titles) it is plain common sense that their can only be one format. The market is moving towards Blu-ray and hopefully the sales outcome over the next few months will confirm Blu-ray as the dominant format.

Of course if Microsoft are successful with any more of their bribes then things can change, but hopefully we have moved beyond the money grab stage and wiser heads are looking to the longer term.

If HD media does eventually become mass market then it will be because there is only one HD disc format that allows conumers a clear, natural upgrade from DVD, with no confusion. In that case, there might as well be only one format now.

If you disagree I look forward to reading your scenario of how 2 formats that do essentially the same thing will lead to a HDM mass market.

What's that? You don't have one? Well, don't worry, nobody thought you did.

Now, be off to AVS, where you'll feel right at home.

there is a valid point in this odd little thread. we have talked about how all the hd dvd group & its minions do is try to slander blu ray instead of promoting hd dvd. now we are playing the same game.

hd dvd is not a great format, it was designed to be adequate and marginally satisfying.

I do wish there were a few less threads with hd dvd as the subject. but a little analysis of the competition isn't bad.

but using that same philospy, All cooperations always analyze and dissect the competition, we are men(and woman) and we are competitive by nature.By dissecting the competition we make what is there better.

Prime example would be HDDVD, they see the BD-50 is the way to go, so they are developing a 51 gb triple layer, once again trying to get a leg up on BD and they see little success with the hddvd combo.

So then I have to ask you all this, do the people at Blu-Ray.com have nothing better to do than to talk about HD-DVD? Most of the newer members around here are going down the same road as HD-DVD.com, where they sit there using slang names like a 5 year old would do. They think they're being clever when in reality they're just as bad as the other people doing it. The solution is simple, STICK TO BLU-RAY. Blu-Ray has nothing to do with HD-DVD. Yeah, there are times when you need to mention HD-DVD, but having a new post about HD-DVD every 20 minutes is overkill. Lets just stick to Blu-Ray and act like HD-DVD doesn't exist, alright?
