Default Anchor Bay Releases - No English subtitles?

• Halloween
• Evil Dead II
• Dawn of the Dead
• Day of the Dead

http://www.dvdactive.com/news/releas...-releases.html

• Masters of Horror: Season 1, Vol. 1 & 2

http://www.dvdactive.com/news/releas...l-1-and-2.html

The back covers are displayed on both of the two pages linked above. I looked at them and I don't see any mention of subtitles or SDH (Subtitles for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing).

If this turn out to be the case, then I'm quite disappointed because I was looking forward to a few releases from Anchor Bay.

How many Volumes are there going to be for Masters of Horror Season 1?
3 or 4? Since Vol 1 & 2 only have 3 Episodes each, what about Miike's Imprint?
It better be released... I am getting rid of my DVD versions this week.

All of the titles mentioned are closed captioned on the DVD instead of using English subtitles.

I sent an e-mail to Anchor Bay and asked them for a confirmation. Hopefully I will get a response today or tomorrow.

A little-known fact: Universal Home Video (Canadian Division) took at least a year to respond to an e-mail of mine. Then I sent them another e-mail and they never responded. Maybe I'll get something in a couple years.

Anchor Bay also didn't include english subtitles on their DVD's also, so I guess that they haven't changed their tune.

Right, but they did caption them on DVD. However, it's much more difficult to caption movies on Blu-ray because they didn't mandate the technology of closed captioning for HDMI inputs. Therefore, they decided to go with SDH (Subtitles for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing).

I remember how the first few editions of Halloween weren't captioned on DVD till the 25th anniversary. I had to make sure of that when they announced it. I e-mailed them several times and then they finally confirmed that it is captioned on DVD including all the special features.

I always wondered about what the difference between regular subtitles and captioning for the hearing impaired is. I mean they would pretty much serve the same purpose no? At least for the most part.

The difference between Subtitles and SDH is that SDH include sound descriptions, names and more. They will include every word spoken when English subtitles doesn't.

Anyway... still no word on if it's subtitled or not. Even though it's listed on DVDReview.com and I e-mailed only to get a failure delivery notification. Just my luck. Plus, DVD Authority website, I tried to find their contact information but it cannot be found due to an error.

I also e-mailed Anchor Bay at least 2 times and still no response.

(sigh)

Why is it so hard to find out if it's subtitled or not?

I'm as excited as a leeeeeeeeeetle girl! My review copies of Halloween, Evil Dead 2, Dawn and Day of the Dead, and two of the Masters of Horror sets (which I'm not really that excited about 'cause I'm not that big on the show) arrived today!!

I'm gonna throw in Halloween now, 'cause I just gotta. There's absolutely no mention of subtitles on the back of any of these, and, when I asked my AB rep, he told me this:

"English subtitles on these releases for the feature films are formatted specifically for HD releases.(closed captioning isn’t an option on HD releases)"

After that I scratched my head and I still dunno...

Anyway, I'll tell you after I watch one of 'em!!

Well, I just threw in Halloween and checked under setup and there ARE English Subtitles!!

Also the choice between DD 5.1 and PCM 5.1, really nifty menu screens, a trailer for other Anchor Bay releases, including Beowulf and Grendel. Did anyone else hear about that one??

Okay, back to the movie!! I'm eating tasty apple chips and sipping Mad Russian Stout...groovy....
