Default Does the US get steelbooks anymore?!

I was looking through DVD Afficianado's database to see what blu-ray steelbooks are out there and noticed that about 95% of all steelbooks are out of the UK, Canada or Germany. Do steelbooks not sell well in the US or something cause we seem to be getting seriously shafted on exclusive packaging.

No, steelbooks have actually been banned in the United States.

lmao

Harry Potter & The Deathly Hallows Part 1 is coming out soon at FYE as a steelbook and Scarface is getting one as well later in the year. But it is true that the US gets a lower quantity of steelbook releases than Canada or several European countries.

I think its a cultural thing, IMHO. People here in the US don't seem to value packaging as much as those in Europe and Asia. Its not just Steelbooks, but movie box sets and music box sets, too.

The amount of Blu-ray box sets in Media Markt vs. Best Buy, for example, is like 10-1.

But it goes further than that. Check out any Japanese market and have a look at stuff like mochi. Most of that packaging is really nice, and that's just for candy.

I think Americans look at purchases differently than other cultures, too. We tend to look for the bargain or lowest price where many other cultures see the value in a higher priced item, assuming it is better/ more valuable. That is obviously a generalized statement about the majority of given cultures, and there are obviously exceptions (like probably most Americans on here).

As much as I'd like to see more US Steels, I doubt it will really ever happen. We'll prolly continue to average a half dozen at most per year, IMHO.

Its more likely laziness on the part of the stores. The other aspect of it is that SB's get damaged rather easily. At least Canada isn't that far away and they seem to get the most, or at least the 2nd most SB's in the world.

I was wondering that same question when I started collecting steels. Its like all our american made movies have steel books in other countries instead of home. I guess thats what makes steelbook collecting fun and expensive. Some steels out there have about 10 plus different covers, in over 8 different countries. lol
