Default Things that made you go "oh $h*t! no! no! no! no! no! no!" with your electronics

gah. i was just cleaning the screen of my LCD, and after i was done, it looked good and walked away. then i came back about 5 minutes later and the entire freaking screen was covered in streak marks. i could barely see anything on the actual screen (as far a show or movie) and it looked very cloudy and blacks now looked gray because of the streaks on the screen.

needless to say, i was this for the last 15 minutes:

but luckily i was able to fix this (i guess i didn't dry the screen fast enough after wiping) and lower my blood pressure greatly but man! that was frightening

anyone else have some almost-tragic stories to share?

Not me, but my uncle walked into his living room and saw his grandson "playing" with one of his toy cars on his TV screen. Left quite a few trackmarks on it.

And just in case anyone is concerned, the kid is alive and well.

When the piping in my kitchen ruptured and I had to scramble to block off my HT from the flood with a towering wall of towels

My dogs tail spilt my soda on my old laptop once. I was cursing and yelling all day. I let it dry out and it worked again for about 30 seconds. After that it never turned on again.

I had a couple of instances where I overloaded an outlet and all the devices and lights went off. Lost a couple of high-rating power strips that way but the TV and stereo were unharmed.

Here in Australia everything electronic is supposed to run on 230-240 volts (the actual true Australian standard is between 190-263 volts, anything under or over is considered dangerous and not good for our appliances). Anyhow, about a decade ago, my dad had a neighbour who was an electrician and had agreed to do some electrical work on my old man's house in exchange for some work done on his house (my dad is a carpenter by trade).

On this particular day it was my day off work (back then I still lived with my parents), and I hear a knock at the door earlier in the afternoon. It was our electrician neighbour who had come around to do the work he owed my dad, I said 'no dramas' and let him do whatever he was supposed to do. About 30 minutes later after he had began working our smoke alarms went off, I jumped up to check why to discover smoke coming from a few appliances.

The dumb bastard electrician had run double the amount of volts than what he was supposed to through the entire house (480 volts), (don't ask me how he managed to do something so stupid cause I don't have the answer and don't understand how), which fried every appliance of ours which was plugged in, including and 80cm Sony crt tv and ps2. To make matters worse, he couldn't afford to replace the items he destroyed, and that kind of damage wasn't covered by our insurance company.

My 2 year old grabbing his (hard) plastic hammer and hammering on the flat screen TV because there's something in the show he wants to squash.

When I was 6 years old and saw Captain EO 3-D for the first time, I kept trying to catch the little flying furry critter.

With an older 25" CRT Tube, I used to sometimes slide on its stand to change the angle when working on my computer.. Well my 4 year old of course noticed it wasn't in the right position and attempted to fix it, pulling the tv off the stand.. in slow motion, I couldn't stop it.. Luckily it hit the ground first then hit his foot second and no serious injury.. scared the shit of him. TV survived with some cracks and broken inputs on the back (co-ax cable yanked out of the back..).

I was a lot more concerned with how the TV was.

Canada Not reliable Blu-ray disc players!

Most of my BD players always act up on me! ..."Copyright Violation", Audio droputs, "Can't Read Disc", etc.

Never had those issues with my DVD players.

I blame HDCP protocols and HDMI standards.

- Also some bad manufacturing Blu-ray discs. What a shame!

linkgx1,

Do you develop? If so that's cool what app did you make or help make? I wanted to try developing but it was to overwhelming so I quit.

Developing right now....er at least learning how. I'm kind of in a rut too, because I thought I could just learn C# or Android. But found out I have to go to Java....and then the books told me I need to learn C++ or have some background in programming. *sighs* But I WILL conquer it!
