Talking Fox's 'Family Album' with Mike O'Malley

Quote:
Mike O'Malley, who is recurring on Fox/20th TV's Glee, is adding a potential regular series gig to his plate, also for Fox and 20th TV. O'Malley is set to play the lead in the single-camera comedy pilot Family Album, written by Joe Port and Joe Wiseman and directed by Shawn Levy. It centers on Dave (O'Malley), a passionate, overly enthusiastic former jock who, after a breakthrough experience on a family vacation returns home with a renewed conviction to "bond the crap out of his family."

O'Malley had a choice of a comedy and drama series gig this pilot season with offers for Family Album and NBC's drama Grimm, ultimately going with the half-hour project. The deal for Family Album calls for O'Malley to continue his recurring role as Kurt's sensitive single dad Burt Hummel on Glee, which earned him a guest starring Emmy nomination. Additionally, O'Malley, repped by CAA and Principato Young, wrote this past weekend's episode of the Showtime drama Shameless and the indie feature Certainty, now in post-production. On the big screen, he currently co-stars in Fox Searchlight's Cedar Rapids. Rachael Harris will play the wife, a stay-at-home mom. Rob Huebel will play the brother.

Cool happy he could be back on TV after Yes Dear ended and he was only a guest star on Parenthood and Glee.

He's far funnier than he is good at dramatic roles so a comedy is perfect. I think this would be a great followup show for Raising Hope. Create some kind of Fox Family Hour, though if the Zooey Deschannel show gets picked up and maybe one other comedy they could have a solid 2 hour comedy block too.

Yeah I like him in comedies more then dramas and happy he's making the return. Also think a Raising Hope team up could be good.

Mike O'Malley Reveals Double Duty Plans for Glee, New Fox Pilot
Quote:
Burt Hummel fans, rejoice! Mike O’Malley tells me exclusively that there’s no need to worry about the future of Glee‘s greatest dad.

When Deadline reported Wednesday that O’Malley had landed the lead role in Fox’s new pilot Family Album, the web went wild with one pivotal query: What does this mean for Glee‘s Burt Hummel?! Well, fret not because barring another internal disaster, Kurts’s (Chris Colfer) beloved pops is here to stay.

“I hope Burt Hummel doesn’t have another heart attack and die because as part of my deal, I’m guaranteed six episodes of Glee next season,” a dapper O’Malley revealed Saturday night at the Ace Eddie Awards in Beverly Hills.

Six episodes may not sound like much, but in actuality it’s one more than his first season run and just about the same number of times we’ve seen Burt in Season 2 — so not too shabby.

Look for Burt to pop-up in the next two episodes of Glee (the first airing Tuesday, March 22), which are sure to have fans of the “Furt” duo in tears…again.

“My upcoming scenes are with Burt and Kurt, and it’s some really great stuff,” he promised. “It’s the further stage of evolution of Burt needing to accept his son as who he is. They have some conversations Burt never thought he would have to have.” Blaine-related, no doubt.

Finn's Mom is also on the show but that's about it as far as seeing parents on a regular basis.

That's what I thought. He was the only adult I could stand for the most part, cause Sue and Shue always made me want to throw bricks at them, but Mike started to lose me when he joined in Kurt's crying game when he spent all that time playing the victim. It'll be nice to see him again on something with substance not based on itunes sales.

Not completely dead......

Quote:
FAMILY ALBUM: The single-camera family comedy directed by Shawn Levy and starring Mike O'Malley was also initially poised for retooling, and Fox asked producing studio 20th TV to film a second episode. But I now hear that the pilot is on track for a midseason order, which may come as early as next week.
