Default HD audio question?

Hey guys, one question here.

I have TMT 5 on my laptop and whenever I play a blu ray that has a dts hd ma track on it, sometimes it's show in the little info box and sometimes it just comes up as normal DTS wtf?

Also, when I play an hd audio sample, it displays true hd, but on some movies it will show only normal dd or I won't get audio at all, again wtf?

Even if the tracks show up as dts hd mstr or truehd, I check the settings menu and they are all 16 bit, so I'm guessing they're downsampled.

Now, here is my question. If they are downsampled, why don't all of the HD tracks just get displayed as normal dts in the info box, instead of dts hd mstr or true hd?
