Yeah, and in my opinion its mostly a waste of time. Many of these films have been out on DVD for years, before the Blus came out, so combining the two just seems like a rehash, for Disney to make more money in a short timeframe. I already had the DVDs of "National Treasure 1 & 2", and the "Pirates" trilogy; I got rid of them when I upgraded to hi-def. If I'd wanted to keep them in a set with the Blus, I'd have done so on my own. The whole "combo pack" deal for older releases just seems silly to me.

Disney hasn't abandoned catalog titles as they are still releasing a ton of their catalog titles on Blu-ray including the diamond collection, non diamond movies and Ghibli titles as well as Pixar films. Disney has no way abandon catalog movies.

Well, in any case, the only Disney films I currently have on Blu are "Beauty & The Beast", the "National Treasure" films, the first two "Narnia" entries, "Race to Witch Mountain", and the "Pirates" trilogy. I do have a few on DVD though, like "Lion King", "Mary Poppins", "Jungle Book", and the first "Mighty Ducks". When these films hit Blu, I'll probably ditch my older copies, unless the extras aren't ported over for the hi-def versions.

I sometimes think that people consider studios having abandoned catalog films, just cause they don't release every film on Blu-Ray they own at once. Not even considering that if they flood the replication lines or the market, both of which would hurt the industry. |

Another thing to note about the Disney "re-releases" --- a lot of them are sharing the same SKU as the previous version.
The previous versions usually came with a Digital Copy, which at this point as expired. No reason to keep a production on the shelf which contains an expired disc. Better to pull them and replace them with a DVD. |

They are only doing it with non-vault movies...
Also... it's not a huge investment since they are taking the previous masters for the Blu-ray... and combining with the previous master for the DVD... and just putting both in the same package. It actually makes sense... if they slowly replace their old Blu-ray and DVD offerings (when the stock runs dry) with one SKU that has both copies in a single package. They might even save money on a combo pack IF they obsolete their older separate SKUs. And if they keep the prices low... people can buy one and get both formats... and eventually some current DVD-player-owners will upgrade to Blu and already have some Disney Blus to watch. |

Plus, you have to consider that many of the titles being re-released were titles that were released early in Blu-Ray's life. So, there are many people just now adopting Blu-Ray that, if they are not re-released, will not get press and wouldn't sell as many copies.

I still need Ratatouille, Wall-E and Pirates 1 on blu-ray, and if the re-releases bring forth new coupons, sales and discounts, then I will be able to pick them up cheaper than if they were not re-released, seeing as how the prices only go down when something new is released.

Because Disney knew they is some collector love to double dip.
Anyway I don't might they re-release, as it still plenty of title I not own yet, and possible for people that not yet invest in blu-ray, at least re-release came with slipcover without worried. |

They're guaranteed to make $$. The lesser known titles aren't guaranteed to make money. The restoration process is time consuming and expensive (at least the way Disney has handled their titles thus far) and if they took an easier route and spent less time and money on restoring the classics people would complain. Also roughly 15 releases a year from Disney seems pretty good to me (and my wallet), and I'm sure it's actually on the high side to most consumers. |
