Found this on BBFC, listing a release date of 24th January 2011. Both links are for newly-rated additional material, one of which is for deleted scenes. Since there weren't any deleted scenes on the DVD, does this mean there's a Blu-ray release coming?

Has anyone bought this? I can't find any reviews for the Blu-ray release. What's the PQ like? Are there any extras and if so what? Amazon are selling it for just under a tenner now. Would appreciate any feedback from anyone that already has it - thanks.

I have it. It's got a very nice transfer. The same as the HD-DVD which also looked good. As for the extras, it ported over almost everything that was on the HD-DVD(which had all the extras from the Ultimate Edition DVD). They left off the audio commentary and trailers though. Not sure why.

Very happy with the purchase and if you love the film, there's no reason to not import it. Especially if you're hoping for something better down the road. |

The transfer does indeed shake during certain scenes, but I popped in my old DVD and compared it. Sure enough, the shaking is there on the DVD if you really look for it, the low resolution just means I never noticed it before. It's extremely slight, and only in maybe 5 mins total of the film.
The shaking was most noticeable during the scene where Grant chats with Gina McKee and her husband in their living room after the dating montage, and when Roberts comes over to Grant's house in tears after the photos of her run in the paper. It was definitely irritating, but I'm so grateful to have Notting Hill on Blu that I'm not going to look a gift horse in the mouth, especially since the shaking is also on the DVD. Also, I noticed that the shaking only occurs in certain shots. For example, during Grant and Roberts's first big dialogue scene, standing by his fridge in his flat, the angle on her doesn't shake, but the angle on him does. I almost wonder if they had a defective camera when they shot the film (if they shot the dialogue with two cameras) or if something went wrong with the film technically on certain shots. I don't remember these shots shaking in the theater, but then I wasn't really looking for that and it was 12 years ago. |
