Exclamation HD DVD-ers trying to catch up to our September 18 Buy-a-thon sales! (See image)

This is a quote from BD member "calgarymarc" who took a snapshot of the current "Top 10 Sales Rank between BD and HDDVD."

HDDVD-ers are trying very hard to desperately get close to our numbers, LETS CONTINUE TO BUY MORE BD MOVIES TODAY and CONTINUE AS LATE AS POSSIBLE! And LETS DO THE SAME THING AGAIN TO COUNTERACT THEIR "BUY-A-THON's" And Again on 10/16/2007 when TRANSFORMERS HDDVD HITS STORE SHELVES.

HD-DVD is making a desperate move to catch up to us!

DON'T LET THIS HAPPEN!

***EDIT***: P.S. I know this is just Amazon.com and not everyone is going to purchase their discs from Amazon. Feel free to purchase your discs from wherever you please, however just remember who we are fighting!

Look at the Top 1000 average - Blu-ray is kicking ass on Amazon and in B&M's.

It's another 60:40 week for Blu-ray minimum this friday and then closer to 70:30 next Friday.

Within the next 8 weeks you'll see an 80:20 week for Blu-ray easily, while their big titles struggle to get close to 50:50

This whole thing is rather ludicrous. Honestly, I was not aware that were that many movies out there worth buying. Are you really going to "buy a movie you wouldn't normally buy" just for some buy-a-thon thing?

Blu-ray Disc sales are going to beat the utter living shite out of HD DVD this Q4.

I think your optimistic, I've been watching the thread reguarding what people are buy in term of blu-ray and am glad we're doing so well, I don't have alot of money, but if we can block HD-DVD entirely during 4Q and continue to grow in sales, I'd be surprised if Warner leaves us.

I realize many are going to look for the results in the eproductwars graph which has me thinking I better get on Amazon. I would rather go out later to my local shops to get something I can watch today but.. I can see lots of people are going to be looking to that graph for a picture of how the day went.

The WB's price on harry potters giftset is also tempting but again it won't be in that graph

The Amazon graph doesn't matter. What matters are the Neilson ratios.

Yeah,

But the amazon graph does matter. If it shows a large lead for Blu Ray it can be used to celebrate our buy-a-thon... if it doesn't show a large lead then the HD DUD camp will try to poke fun and spin things to say that even with a buy-a -thon we can't make a difference.

I'm looking at stuff on Amazon and trying to put togeather an order... it's hard when there's so much I want,... could have worse problem though

Yeah. Corporations do look at sales graphs. So I'm buying on the chance that the total does make an imprint. Most of the handfull I ordered today I'm moderately interested in. I'll watch them a few times then give them to one of the small libraries in the area. (I like to support local small-town libraries. They often rely heavily on community support.) Having Blu on their shelves may encourage people to buy players eventually - no one has been donating any HD DVDs yet that I know of.

I'm waiting for the "art-house" releases. Then I'll build up my own collection in earnest.

No one is asking anyone to exclusively buy BD's today from amazon. The graph just goes to show you the current consumer trend seeing how Amazon is a HUGE ONLINE SELLER! What goes on at amazon is probably almost the same trend going on at other big name websites or retail stores. You can buy you BDs from anywhere though

Ordinarily these buy-a-thons are meant for actual current purchases of currently available titles, not pre-orders. The Amazon charts include pre-orders.

I was more so talking about your idea of having a buy-a-thon on their buy-a-thon day, then having a buy-a-thon when transformers comes out and well, because they are buying HD's on our buy-a-thon day we need another super secret buy-a-thon day so they can'y figure out when it is. All this buy-a-thon maneuvering reminds me of the iodine scene in the princess bride.

Default HD DVD push?

Hey guys and gals, I was over at hidefdigest where they have up to date trackings of amazon sales and I saw a huge surge in HD-DVD sales rank today the 18th on their custom graphs. They're actually almost caight up to blu this tuesday and into wednesday. Anyone have any idea if their was a counter rally against the buy-a-thon by HD-DVD? I noticed alot of warner titles in there. Anyway, I'm sure its nothing to be worried about.

Amazon rankings are just rankings and not true sales numbers. My guess is that HD-DVD owners tend to order titles on the release day and Blu-ray owners are more casual buyers that buy during the whole week.

The Buy-A-Thon was never meant to raise the charts. It was started to celebrate 10.000 members here and got more fuel with the Paramount announcement. A buy-a-thon with about 600 members buying a couple or more movies around the world will not make a huge impact on any sales statistics or rankings.

Sept. 18 was a day with many new releases. More HD-DVD owners bought movies because the options were more. Same goes for Blu-ray owners but they will buy during the whole week and the rankings will not go up so quick.

Blu-ray is still out-ranking and out-selling HD-DVD. My guess is that the out-selling part is even still true for the stand-alone player sales.

Meh, they probably got wind of our buy-a-thon and decided to swarm Amazon with pre-orders to counter it. Their sales have no legs, expect them to drop back into their old seabed in a couple of days.

enjoy

While you are right that HD-DVD almost caught up with Blu-ray yesterday, I would worry more about what the Nielsen scans will look like by the end of the week .

Come to think of it, I would REALLY want to know what it will look like by the end of the year .
