Default The Grudge is coming...

Love it or hate it, the 2004 horror remake starring Sarah Michelle Gellar is coming to blu on March 24th. Personally I'm glad as I've been waiting for its release (I'm hoping it's the unrated director's cut). I also hope to hear soon about the sequel's release (or possibly future Ju-On releases.) Good news.

Wish it was Ju-On, I would get that one.

Would also like to see [REC] make it to blu too

Cool. I really liked it. Wonder if Grudge 3 will be released on Blu the same day as DVD.

This movie was too freaky for my liking. Call me whatever you like, but no way in heck this is going in my collection....I'm not a big horror fan as it is, never mind a 'crap in your pants' fan.

+1. The Grudge movies and The Ring movies can go to hell. Pretty much anything with long haired pale ghost children annoys the hell out of me.

Thanks to this crappy movie we've been bombarded with crappy PG-13 horror movies.

You can't make a PG-13 horror movie....look at all the classics:

Exorcist
Nightmare On Elm Street
Halloween
Friday the 13th
Evil Dead
Alien
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (even though this should have been PG-13 if PG-13 existed at the time.)

All "R" and all great movies!

Technically, if most of those were made today.... they'd probably get a PG-13.

A horror movie doesn't need to be R-Rated to be good.

It also doesn't need to depend on gore, nudity, or foul language.

I liked Ju-on, but I thought that The Grudge was a great remake that really gave some great tension to the film. The Grudge 2 was a huge disappointment, but the first one was a great horror film. You can't tell me that Catboy didn't make you jump.

Ju-On: Rated R
The Eye: Rated R....and both far superior to their Hollywood counterparts.

But I think the main reason the remakes suck is because of the heavy usage of CGI, and the CGI is horribly corny in most of the films. But with the CGI they transform the film more so to a visual horror film and not a psychological film, but I can see why...I doubt your average movie goer would be able to handle Ju-On...they would be like "LOLZ THEZE GRAPHICS R TEH SUX". Then there is the fact that you cant get anyone who can act worth a shit in these films, Jessica Alba? Need I say more? lol

But thats just me ranting

Well...sure the majority of great horror movies are R, but that certainly doesnt make the rating a neccessity. I think you are refering more to a "hollywood cheezyness" that often accompanies many PG13/PG movies. This has nothing to do with the rating itself.

A list of kick ass, terrifying PG/PG13 horror movies...

Invasion of the Body Snatchers 1978 version (PG)
The Ring (PG13)
The Sixth Sense (PG13)
Many Hitchcock films
Poltergeist (PG) (...ok maybe its not terrifying but it has its moments!)

not to mention the Blair Witch Project was really only R because of language which did not contribute to the scares at all.

Friday the 13th? Texas Chainsaw? Evil Dead? These are some of the CHEESIEST B movies ever made. Theye arent scary, they have NO plot, and they rely on stoopid hot teenagers and complete lapses of logic to work. I mean, the rest of your list has some great films there but dont be playing the Friday the 13th card! Or Texas Chainsaw.... those are comedies as far as Im concerned. For example:

A basic scene from Friday the 13th:

Radio - "There is a killer loose in the woods"
Dumb blond with big boobs - "Im going for a walk" (at 11pm no less.)
Music - "Choo choo ahh ahhh"

Some retired hockey player cuts her boobs off. Setup next dumb teenager scene. Lather, rinse, repeat.

I have to disagree. Ju-On was good, but I thought the US remake was much better than the Japanese original.

I have never seen a horror movie that actually gave me nightmares until I saw the Grudge. I will buy this one.

Agree to disagree then because I thought The Grudge was horribly corny and comical, and Ju-On gave me the creeps going to the bathroom in the middle of the night lol.

And this happens all the time in PG-13 horror movies?

I think the R rated movie are a bit more realistic. Example: If you are in a cabin at some summer camp at night getting busy with another counselor and all of a sudden some machete wielding maniac bursts in and chops the head off your partner...what's the first thing you say? Holy crap? Or F***!!!!

I am kinda biased because I do like my horror to be gory. I don't want to imagine the gore...I wanna see it. I paid my money to watch a film, I don't want to have to do any work on my end to enjoy the experience. And you
just can't get that kind of production value from PG-13. You get people/things jumping out at you....boring.
