Blu-ray Samurai

I am really looking forward to this release from Twilight Time (and please pardon me for starting its own thread, not just leaving it buried in the 670-page TT thread, LOL).
I saw it when it came out in 1967 and that was Poitier's triumphant year...except in one way. That year saw him in To Sir With Love, In The Heat of the Night, and Guess Who's Coming to Dinner -- and yet he didn't get a Best Actor nomination for any of them! (It's said that the voting was so split over three movies that he didn't get enough for one film' s nomination.) Instead, the Oscar that year went to Rod Steiger for In the Heat of the Night. I saw this again this year at the Turner Classic Film Festival in Los Angeles, and with the pleasure of Lulu in person AND singing the title song for us before the movie started!!! |
