Here's hoping they do a nice makeover with the transfer. I'm really looking forward to it (even though as far as factual info on Chaplin himself it is quite trunketed...I wish they just made the film longer so that one doesn't just barely get snippets of his life)
There are some magical moments to be had and Downey does make a wonderful Little Tramp. His physicality is surprisingly spot on (but one huge blunder is that Charlie Chaplin had brilliant blue eyes, not the big beautiful browns that Downey has...oh well ![]() ![]() Chaplin Blu-ray Chaplin Blu-ray Review I saw it in HIDEF on HDNET and was quite disappointed at their broadcast. It was dirty, not too sharp and basically looked just like my DVD. I pray the blu is a revitalized transfer! Last edited by Deciazulado; 02-11-2011 at 04:17 AM. |

We'll see the real art soon enough. (And it is one of Downey's better roles, years before he went "respectable" with Tony and Sherlock.) |

I love this movie. Helps that I love Chaplin. If you don't like Chaplin, this may bore you.
Has some great scenes from the early days of filmmaking that may interest some. Has some amazing acting though from its amazing cast. All the DVD transfers I've seen are pretty bad. And it did look pretty average on HDNet. I wouldn't expect too much from this Blu Ray but I will be happy just to own it. |

![]() I am really looking forward to this release. Let's hope that it is a fine upgrade (which won't be difficult as the old R1 DVD release suffers from an endless list of issues). A wonderful film ![]() Pro-B Last edited by pro-bassoonist; 01-21-2011 at 07:24 PM. |

I always enjoyed this movie. Went to see it in theaters back in 1992. I am not sure how it was elsewhere but here it was in theaters only a short while so I was rather lucky to catch it. I was really taken by how good a job everyone did on this one. Sure it's not an exact review of Chaplin's life but I still find it a very good movie and I will make the upgrade. My DVD is truly not amazing PQ wise so I think the Blu-ray should be a nice upgrade.

Wonderful film! Worried the low price point will mean bad transfer and barebones disk. Loved Criterions Modern Times and with rumours of The Great Dictator coming this year perhaps City Lights will be soon as well! Chaplin finally gets the attention he deserves!
Any scoop what extras will be included? |

I'm a really fan of this movie and I was expecting like a child a blu-ray release but now I see the facts. Its gonna be the same DVD version with a lack of extra scenes.
The original cut was nearly 4 hours long; over 200 hours of footage was shot. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0103939/trivia?tr0790434 but Amazon http://www.amazon.com/Chaplin-Anniversary-Blu-ray-Robert-Downey/dp/B004DTLK62/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1296976848&sr=8-1 run time specification is 2h 15min, like the old version. Why is there are so many footage they make this mistake for a 15th anniversary release? |
