Default Advice needed for HDMI 1.3 and 1.4

If anyone could shed a little light, it would be most appreciated.

I currently own the Sony BDP S-360 which I use an HDMI 1.3B to connect to the TV.

I'm looking to buy the Sony HT-AS5 surround sound system to add to the blu ray player, but I've read that an HDMI 1.4 is required and I'm just wondering if this would effect the set-up if I were to use the 1.4 with the S-360?

Again, any help or advice would be greatly appreciated!!!

HDMI cables are designated as "standard" or "High Speed"...

to use the term v1.3, v1.4 with a cable is a bit misleading as the cable has nothing to do with the HDMI capabilities (aka version 1.3, 1.4 etc) of the device itself.

HDMI version numbers indicate the type of transmitter/receiver chip being used inside the device.

Definitely give this thread a read...it is very long!

Sticky: HDMI Cables

...but to make a long story short, as long as your HDMI cable is "High Speed", you really should not have to buy any new cables!

if you do need new HDMI cables, check out monoprice.com or Bluejeanscable.com

just realized you are "across the pond".

Perhaps someone more local can help you find a decent place to buy HDMI cables if needed.

And for god's sake, I hope that is not your current 3D TV in your HT gallery!

As crackinhedz said (very well in fact ), that you can keep your current HDMI cables, as long as their labelled "high Speed".

If you do want to buy a new HDMI cable (cheap one) then I would check out Amazons selection.
