Default Noob with some question about connecting old speakers with new receiver

Hi guys, I recently got a new 3DTV so I was going to pick up a new receiver with it. Here's the one I'm thinking of getting.

But I got some question about this receiver. I can see that the speakers wires will go in the red and black circle part. But will it work for my old speakers? The receiver I currently looks kinda like this in the back.

I just connect my speakers by clipping the expose wire in those latches. Does the new receiver works like that or am I out of luck and need new speakers? Thanks

Those are analogue connectors,so-yeah-just plug them in (mind right polarity) and you'll be good to go.Do you have a surround setup,or 2ch?

you outta be good, but I would google the model number of your old speakers and find out the impendence (ohms) of your speakers to make sure they match your new receiver. forgot to look, but some receivers have a switch on the back to change input impedence levels...Don't want to fry the new unit. Also, does the new receiver have 3d pass through on the HDMI's

Ok I google my old receiver and here's what I found

http://reviews.cnet.com/home-theater...-32401496.html

Also here's the receiver I'm eyeing

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004QOA920/ref=ox_sc_sfl_title_2?ie=UTF8&m=ATVPDKIKX0DER

But I just don't get how the speaker will be wired on the receiver. It doesn't have the clipping part of my older one. Do I stick the wire into the red and black part? Won't it fall out? Just a little bit confuse.

those big black and red knobs are actually screws, you can either stick banana plugs right into the holes themselves or unscrew each a little bit and youll see a hole in the bolt that colored knob screws onto. Stick your bare end of your speaker wire through there and tighten down the colored screw knob and it will stay. You need to google your speakers to see the impendence

BTW I have the str-dh520 (a couple steps below the 820 and it rocks. It is worth every penny. You won't be disappointed. Although you WILL catch the upgrade-itis and will want some new 7.1 speakers to complement this....

If you don't put banana plugs on the end of your wires and instead just stick the wires in the holes, make sure the part of the wire that's sticking out doesn't touch another wire. If it does, you can short out the receiver.

Also, when other posters have mentioned polarity, what that means is that make sure that you don't reverse the wires when going from your receiver to the speaker. + on the receiver must be + on the speaker and - on the receiver must be - on the speaker. Although the setup software (Audyssey or whatever) in your receiver will probably detect if you wire anything incorrectly (out of phase).

Thinking about upgrading my speakers now. Does the newer speakers today comes with banana plugs? Or are they like my speaker with expose wiring?

i knew you'd get it. no most speakers do not even come with speaker wire, unless you get a home theater in a box. you can buy lots of wire from monoprice.com and get banana plugs there too i believe. Have fun and do as much research and actual phyical listening tests you can before youspend your hard earned money....

The red and black circle things are called Binding Posts. The speaker connectors on your older receiver are called Spring Loaded.

With spring loaded connectors, you can only connect bare wires to them.

With binding posts, you can use bare wire, banana plugs, or spade connectors. If you are using bare wires, don't stick the wires in the holes as they can comm loose. Unscrew them, wrap the bare wire around the post, and then screw them back so that they are tight. Banana plugs makes the job of plugging and unplugging a little easier.

Go to the end of post #1 in https://forum.blu-ray.com/audio-theo...er-cables.html. You will find pictures and explanation of each type of speaker connectors.
