I see that this website now has a page that states this is coming out in early 2023. I don't see any release date information on the Amazon listing, so is it just an assumption on the part of whoever updated the page here?

Plus, weren't Criterion the ones supposed to release this?

YouTube offers it for sale as an HD video, so an HD master exists. Why in the world hasn't this come out on blu-ray?

Next to the still-missing 1937 Prisoner of Zenda, it's probably the b&w film that I most look forward to having on blu.

Forgot about this thread's existence and assumed that WAC just announced it. Jokes on me.

George Feltenstein has said that Warners has a lot of older HD masters that are good enough for streaming, but not good enough for blu-ray.

It amazes me that even with their focus on the 1930s-1950s, movies like Captain Blood and Top Hat are still MIA.

WA wasn't releasing 30's movies for the most part until 2019 (with 42nd Street being the sole exception) and up until 2021 it was a small part of their overall lineup. WHV didn't end up release that many 30's movies on Blu-ray.

It's not really surprising that there are still a ton of major 30's movies left from Warner's catalog. George F. did hint a few months ago that Captain Blood was coming in 2023 which is really great news.

Why is this movie not on bluray yet?
This should be a candidate for 4k, it was nominated for best picture, and best director.

For me, it is easily the one I most look first forward to having on Blu. And I’ll take it no matter how I can get it. While I think I’d prefer a Criterion release with bonus features, it seems more likely that WA would release it because of how much George Feltenstein values these properties, especially from Curtiz, Flynn and de Haviland.
