Default All 3 Spider-Man Blu-rays need firmware update to play on Samsung BD-P1000

At the first attempt, all 3 Spider-Man blu ray discs will not play on the Samsun BD-P1000 player.
It is just like Pirates of the Caribbean all over again

I am in Australia and have just picked up the Spider-Man trilogy on Blu ray and am not happy !!

Have you upgraded to the latest firmware on the UK Site? The Australian firmware that came with the player doesn't have anu updates to the Java capabilities that are necessary to play titles such as chicago, gone in 60 seconds pirates of the carribean, speed and league of extraordinary gentlemen.

But by loading the uk firmware it works, you can then just unlock the dvd side by using the region 2 code.

Oh snap,

Sorry to hear that. I upgraded a friends P1000 firmware so that he could watch PotC so I guess I sort of know what it's like.

I hope the fix comes with the quickness. They fixed it before maybe they can fix it again. Perhaps they aren't up to speed because the Australian release being a month ahead of the US caught them off guard.

It is things like this that leave a sour taste for early adopters.
I hope Samsung has plans to fix this.

Mearly as a troubleshooting step,

I suggest you fedex the discs to me overnight express. I will carefully verify the quality of the discs themselves using my PS3 and you will know that the player itself is the only thing in need of repair.

Once the updated FW is released.. I will consider shipping them back to you.

Sorry,.. thought that may be funny. I hope you get new FW soon. Maybe you should pawn the P1000 and pick up a used PS3? I know they work on the PS3 as did PotC and even the Decent when it was realeased (that title gave other players fits.)

That's a bummer. You get the movies early but have to wait to watch them?

You've called Samsung I hope, because as a PS3 owner I'm not going to call them for you.

There are no sour tastes. It's the nature of the beast for early adopters. With new technology comes new problems. You can't expect to release something and not have 0 problems. Hell, even DVD still has problems.

Default Spiderman and Pirates of Carribean on BD-P1000

Rang Samsung Australia re playing problems.

Downloaded firmware from their Australian sitewhich fixed Spiderman but told firmware to play Pirates not yet available here.

Frustrating considering how long disc has been out.

Perhaps Consumer Affairs should force distributors of discs and players to warn of problems.

Early adopters (if they really are prepared properly to be so) have to EXPECT these issues. And the P1000 owners are the earliest of the early adopters.

People want the distinction of being an early adopter, with none of the risks?

Many discs do contain a warning insert that says your player may need an update.

I wonder if BD+ could be used for this purpose? If the studio supplies a disc beforehand the maker could respond with the firmware version that is/will be needed to support it, and then the BD+ could check the firmware and tell the user where to get an upgrade.

In general, I think early adoptions expect a few hiccups. However these things have to be managed better and more clearly. This is where the BDA can help because you don't really expect studios and hardware makers to always be in sync.

LOL poor Samsung Owner... they get shafted .... you should complain the Samsung Consumer Service instead of bashing the format. BD-J is based on JAVA witch is a Standard programming language. The player should take any commands... but if Samsung only include them on a snail nail basis, then that's poor consumer service..

Someone called Samsung and LG concerning the latest Bd-J problems. LG said that a solution is coming within days... Samsung replied that in a Couple OF WEEKS it should work LOL!
