Default HBO's "The Night Of" (Season 1)

I did not see a thread on this yet.

Anyone catch the premier on Sunday?

I thought it was really good.

Kind of has that dark True Detective feel to it.

It was excruciatingly painful to watch that kid
[Show spoiler]completely bungle his departure from the crime scene in every possible way. That's about as bad as you could possibly handle a situation like that. I mean taking the probable murder weapon with you and stashing it in your coat pocket?

Can't imagine how John Turturro is gonna be able to save him.

Yeah, thought the premiere was great and can't wait to see where it goes. Fan of Riz Ahmed after Four Lions and Nightcrawler and this seems to be another great project from him!

I thought it was really REALLY boring, the guy was a total idiot and his actions weren't even remotely believable.

I'm hooked. Although it's easy to say he did a lot of dumb things, I've never been in that position before. So, I wouldn't have a clue how illogical one can become under so much stress.

Sorry, amigo. Aside from caricature characters, I didn't have any real issues with the episode. His decisions were irrational and dumb, but that doesn't make it unrealistic. Sometimes people do dumb things in situations like his.

I just don't believe
[Show spoiler]he'd have let it all go on around him for that long without saying something. It just made him look a million times more guilty.

It was nice to see the wonderful Bill Camp on the telly again though. I saw him in The Crucible on Broadway recently and he was amazing!

Fair enough. I'm just curious to see where it goes.

I just looked him up on IMDb, and he's been in a lot of movies I've seen. I didn't even realize. He was just in Midnight Special, and has Jason Bourne, Loving, and Gold this year.

Don't look at the IMDB page for The Night of, there are tonnes of spoilers if you look at the cast list.

I stuffed up and did it last night

I think you hit the nail on the head.

The key word is PANIC.

The brain stops functioning properly in a state of panic.

You can be a legitimate genius and make the most utterly bone-headed decisions in a state of extreme panic.

That kid did literally EVERYTHING wrong, which is probably what most people would do if they'd never experienced that kind of a situation before.

It was almost kind of hilarious when he was sitting
[Show spoiler]in the police station and realized that he still had the knife in his pocket.

...the tension was insane.

Also really enjoyed it. I guess this will be the new show I pick to follow. Not really watching anything else on TV right now, now that GoT is over.

I'm glad a thread was finally made for this show! The first episode was awesome! I haven't been this excited for a new show in awhile. I was throwing out theories to my friends all day long on Monday. I hope we actually get a payoff as to what really happened.

In any event here's a few theories I had:

[Show spoiler]
1. The kid actually did it. Not intentionally....the girl had a death wish and egged him on to keep stabbing her in the back, much like she did when he stabbed her in the hand. The girl just kind of had that I want to die tonight persona going on and she found herself someone she could manipulate under copious amounts of drugs. He did it then went downstairs to kitchen to get something from fridge and passed out. Now the problem first and foremost with this theory is the lack of blood on him. He did have blood on his hand from earlier but that really seemed to be it. Would have figured he'd have more blood on himself if he did it.

2. The true owner of the property did it, whoever that may be. It seems illogical that the place they were in was hers. She was young and there was a lot of alluding to that this was a nice high-end neighborhood. Sure she could have inherited some cash or have rich parents taking care of her, but doubtful she could afford this place. Plus the décor...she didn't seem the type that would have a deer head on the wall. Also, it didn't appear anyone broke in based on the front door having what seemed like an autolocking mechanism since he was locked out when he left causing him to need to break in to get his keys. This would assume that the killer was either already in the house, i.e the kid or someone else, or it was someone who had keys like the true owner would. But if this was the case, why would that person not also kill the kid? More than likely so he/she could frame it on the kid sure. The girl obviously knew her way around the place, but doubtful it was hers.

3. The "other black guy". He was there with his friend when they passed the on the sidewalk and didn't say anything, just stared. And when his friend came back, he was alone and suggested he didn't have anyone else with him, intentionally keeping his friend out of the spotlight. His friend, may have been jilted earlier by this girl and now had jealous rage seeing this middle eastern dude going in with her. The guys seemed to know this chick a little because when his friend came back when the cops were there he sort of alluded to that being the chicks place and then said something to the effect of what did he kill her. So they have probably seen her around and could have easily made a pass at her and been rejected. So his friend picks a lock or something to make it seem like there was no break in. Sees everyone passes out, kills the girl and leaves the kid to frame him. He gets together with his friend to let him know what he did and to make sure his friend goes back when cops are there to act as eye witness.

In any event those are just a few of the thoughts that ran through my head. It'll be fun watching this play out!

Theory #1 is interesting.

Theory #3 is interesting as well...but I just can't see it happening.

[Show spoiler]It almost seems too obvious, given the fact that they held that close-up shot on the guy's face very deliberately. Then his friend lies to the detective about him being there. If it does turn out to be him, then they really telegraphed it pretty badly imo.

Plus, if the second guy was going to break into the house and murder the girl that savagely, then why not just kill the kid while he's at it? A lot of things had to happen for the kid to get caught the way he did. If the guy was angry and wanted revenge, killing the Pakastani kid would've been a much safer bet.

This show will fill the void that True Detective left.

Too bad James Gandolfini didn't live to see it completed.

To name all of the possible murder suspects, from what I can remember, we have:

Naz himself
Angry customers forced to get out of cab
Hearse driver at the gas station
Racist black dude and/or his staring friend
Mysterious, helmeted motorcycle rider
The neighbor who called the cops

Anyone I miss?
