I thought Lionsgate owned the Miramax library.

I remember that Miramax was the distributor for 'Exotica' but now the rights for it belong to Criterion/Janus. I wonder if this means that Paramount is licensing the Miramax titles out to boutique labels or if the rights to certain titles were given back to the directors.

Viacom/CBS/Paramount owns 49% of Miramax, BeIn owns the remaining 51%.

Depends on the film. If you're talking DOGMA, then Harvey & Bob personally own it, not Miramax or their subsequent buyers.

The copy on the Criterion Channel opens with the Criterion and Janus logos with no Miramax logo. So Miramax's rights have expired and Criterion licensed it from the original producers.

Ok, I own all of smith's films on dvd and BD (every edition as well) Just hoping we can finally get these films in better editions with better PQ and port over all the extras.

I also love to see Beautiful Girls finally get the treatment it deserves.

So we fans will never see another edition of that film? Kev posted it on his site but called it Jay and S. Bob meet God. I wonder because of the rights as fans are asking about it and fetch a pretty penny on eBay.

Not any time soon. But, never say never. I am sure since Bob Weinstein is still a free man; he'd probably consider licensing it. But, I am sure both Bob and Harvey would need to both agree on whatever they would want for a license on the film. It sucks. It really does.

But, with Paramount now taking half the ownership on Miramax; I am hopeful for some new 4K UHD remasters on some titles. Since there's a new Scream in the works at Paramount; I am sure Paramount will probably crank out a re-issue or new remaster of the first three films when the fifth film comes out. Lantern Entertainment owns Scream 4 and is still distributed by Lionsgate through owning Anchor Bay.

Tarantino's films will definitely be a priority in the 4K UHD formats. I would be shocked if Pulp Fiction isn't one of the first Miramax UHD titles with the exception of Scream. The three Miramax Halloween films will probably get special treatment too since Halloween Kills and Halloween Ends are now both pushed back a whole year. Maybe not UHD, but without a doubt Blu-ray re-issues. It looks like there's some promising potential with the horror and Tarantino stuff; but, a majority of the library might take some time.

the kevin smith films that need new transfers in the worst way are chasing amy and jay and silent bob strike back the other kevin smith films have good transfers. chasing amy uses a grain reduced old codec and jay and silent bob uses a old codec too but the blu ray of jay and silent bob strike back looks like a upscale not a blu ray. i'm surprised were getting a proper remaster of mallrats. but if we had a proper transfer of these two films as well i would be happy.

DOGMA had a unique situation in that it was originally produced under the Miramax shingle. However, at the time, Disney was the parent company. When the Catholic League came out against it, Disney just wanted it gone and told Harvey/Bob to get rid of it. What they did was have Miramax sell it to themselves personally, then licensed it theatrically to Lionsgate and to Sony for video. Both of those deals have long lapsed, which is why it's out of print, and the rights reverted back to Harvey/Bob. The rest of Kevin's Miramax films should be with the new owners of their catalog.

Unless someone wants to do a deal directly with Harvey, you won't see it anytime soon. He is hard up for cash though, so you never know.

There a list anywhere? I saw the Prophecy collection was also on that date in a thread earlier, but nothing about any other titles.
If so, Dogma is still ****ed.
