Is $700-$800 your final price? or are you willing to spend that much now, and then some more a little later to get a better setup?

Plus a polk center with sony fronts wont timbre match . but like Hamp said its better to re-think your options and start with a simple set and upgrade with time , the polk sub also in paper will sound good but with time you will find that something is missing on your system

How about getting the receiver and front 3 right now, and then looking into a sub, and then getting the rear speakers?

Those sony towers are really not worth your time.

Actually.... I have those same Sonys along with the matching center in my bedroom right now, and for a secondary set up they are just fine with me. It took a bit of tweaking to get them to where they weren't too boomy for my tastes... but they are perfect for snuggling up in the bed to watch a horror movie

I wouldn't want them in my main set up, but the price to performance ratio on these speakers is really pretty darned good.

The best thing you can do is get a receiver & the front L/R & center as HAMP said. Make sure the front 3 speakers match for Timbre. Then down the road you can add a good sub & the surrounds.

The most important thing is the front 3 speakers match.

It makes no sense to get it all for less & then spend more later to make it better

OK.... lets build you a great setup.

Receiver
http://www.accessories4less.com/make...eceiver/1.html $189

Front L/R speakers
http://www.amazon.com/Energy-CB-10-B...810601&sr=8-11 $250

surrounds
http://www.amazon.com/Energy-CB-5-Bo...6810601&sr=8-2 $100

Subwoofer
http://www.amazon.com/Premier-Acoust.../dp/B001VDGA7M $199

Speaker stands(if you need them)
http://www.amazon.com/SANUS-SYSTEMS-...811502&sr=1-12 $98

OK, so why this setup??

Well its better then what youre looking at now. It will play loud, deep and have a great soundstage for the $$ and image really well. Why I didn't add a center channel right away, was that you can run the fronts without one to start, and still get all the dialog just fine, however the surround experience with the surounds speakers IMO, are worth more when watching movies, and the Center channel would eat up to much of the budget you have, and this way you can get more Bang for the Buck. Start saving up $$ for the Energy CC-10 center speaker.

I had the Energy speakers that you are looking at, and like RobinnTami said, they are OK, but the Energys with a sub will be better speakers.... After I sold the Sonys, I bought Energys, so I know what you'll be getting.

hope that helps you. feel free to ask me any questions you want, or PM if you want.

Running without a center speaker is a bad idea. Here is why you should include the center.
Quote:
You don’t really need a center speaker (if the décor police won’t permit it)

Wrong—unless you're planning on watching alone

The center channel is the most important in the layout: It anchors dialog to the screen (where it belongs), and provides the center-reference for music, effects, and spatial ambience soundtrack elements. A “phantom center,” projected by the front left/right speaker pair (provided you set center to “none” in your receiver’s setup menu) works — only — for a single, perfectly centered listener, as long as they never move their head. The best center speaker is one that’s identical to the left/right pair, or competently designed to match it both tonally and spatially.

The Center channel IMO is the heart of a HT system

Brent, come down to my house, we can sit you down and listen to my setup. Then tell me if you really think Im missing out on a center channel. Extreme off-axis sitting will skew the sound off to that side youre on, but you can sit on my couch, close your eyes, and Ill put on music, movies, sportscenter... you won't even notice youre missing a center channel.

BTW, I didn't say NOT to get one, but that he could live without it until the OP could save up the $$ to buy it.

And, If I have to choose between a Sub and surrounds or a center channel, Im buying a sub and surrounds over the center speaker.

I don't dought that callas. And I never implied you said not to get one. All I did was leave a post that explained why having one was better then not

definetly, and Im saving to buy my center channel right now, but it cost $850+tx, so im hoping to have it in a few months.... But the past 6-7 months Ive grown to understand how good a system can sound without one, provided you sit in the sweet spots...

tdwp117 I would listen to Callas, He helped me get my HT started, not to say Crazy doesnt know what he is talking about! Because I agree with the Center Channel Speaker being just as important as all the others.....I went with what Callas said thou, the 2 mains and a sub because I love the deep bass and can live without the Center speaker for now.
