This is a quote from a dude on a Mustang forum I am part of. Can someone point me in a direction to discuss this well with him.
Any help would be good. Tech specs would be great.... Originally Posted by Jason I would have to disagree with you Chris...I think that Blu-ray is alot better. There are 2 versions of HD DVD now, do you have a 1080p (not just 1080i) monitor? Without it, you have never seen what BluRay or 1080p HD DVD can actually do |

11 of top 15 movies of 2006 are from blu-ray exclusive studios marked w/ blu faces. Hd-dvd only marked w/ red faces, both yellow faces. 7 of top 15 from Sony themselves.

Hd-dvd exclusive studios, Universal/NBC tv, and Paramount/Dreamworks Blu-ray exclusive studios, Sony, 20th Century Fox/Fox tv, Lionsgate, MGM, Disney/Buena Vista, Miramax. Warner makes both. Plenty of good movies for both, but blu-ray has a much greater selection. 20th Century Fox has 29 titles coming before Xmas. Put together these facts when I was on the fence trying to decide between the 2 formats. I suppose I don't need to tell you which way I went. It had nothing to do with Sony infatuation, although I do believe that they make very good quality products hence they charge more and still are an industry leader. I had a Toshiba vcr many years ago and thought it was well made too. For me it came down to movies available and on the horizon. Studio backing, and elec. manufacturer support. Most electronic hardware producers have joined blu-ray including Philips, Sharp, JVC, LG, Daewoo, Loewe, Denon, Funai, Hitachi, Harmon Kardon, Sony, Apple, Dell, Acer, TDK, Samsung, Panasonic, Mitsubishi, and Hewlett Packard. Manufacturer support of hd-dvd, Hewlett Packard, Acer, Toshiba, NEC, LG (combo player), Microsoft, Intel, Sanyo, Samsung (combo player), and Venturer. Check this link as well. It's from before Paramount changed to hd-dvd so disregard where it says they're neutral: http://www.blu-raydisc.com/Section-1...s/4/Index.html Last edited by richard lichtenfelt; 09-21-2007 at 04:21 AM. |

Not all Blu-ray discs are single layered . . . there are 25gb single layer discs and 50gb dual layers. Most movies now are on BD50's. HD DVD's, at best, are 30gb.
What was he referencing when he's talking about the "720p version?" It's obvious from jump he has no idea what he's talking about . . . the post above mine is pretty informative . . . this has been discussed over and over, but . . . hey, at least it's not another Lord of the Rings thread ![]() |

Go to www.blu-raystats.com
It shows how many Blu-ray are Dual layer with 50 GB! Also, there are more Blu-ray players that play 1080p than HD-DVD players. Many of them only support 1080i. ALL Blu-ray support 1080p! |

its sad to see a mustang person liking hd dvd. my first true love was my 1965 mustang gt with a 289 hiperformance and pony interior. ahhh. unfortunately some inconsiderate individual had to almost kill my wife and I in it. but good old american steel is why i'm alive today.
make sure to tell him that eleanor is on blu ray ''gone in 60 seconds''. that is an exclusive title right? that should make him change his mind, if he really loves mustangs that it. |

I should clarify... I'm running a 31" 1080i CRT (Loewe) so with some films, there's not a huge difference at all - especially with crap like Bullitt and E.T.D. but if you have a large panel or even a good projector, I agree, the differences are there. Once you blow up a picture, you also blow up the imperfections and upscaling, while certainly better than 480i or p, still has inperfections compared to HD even at 1080i that is mush more noticable once you're looking at a big honkin' display.
I've stayed with my CRT because so far... it has the best PQ I've ever seen on a display especially for gaming but I'm sure that'll change. Both plasma and LCD are advancing more quickly and as soon as I come across a panel that looks better than my Loewe... I'll buy it in a heartbeat. Anyway, point is, there IS a difference, depending on what you're running - rez, display technology and size. |

![]() I say this alot, think about it. The size of HD-DVD discs is condusive to a 720p format. They were going to sell us that crap and say, "good enough". That kind of attitude tells me a lot how business works. Sell what you can now, even though you can offer twice as good for about the same money. Then shift gears in a few years and have them pay again for the same thing. If I had to keep replacing parts in my car every few months, it would have gone away a long time ago. I had a car like that, I justified it just so long before a new one made that problem go away. Now, with regular maintainence, it is extremely reliable. |
