I just purchased a 42" LCD t.v. Im having trouble getting a picture from the blu-ray player. I get sound but no picture. I plugged the HDMI cable into the HDMI out slot on the back of ps3 and into the HDMI port on my t.v. Why cant I get a picture? Also the video says the input signal is 420p. Does this have to do with anything?

what are your video output settings on the ps3. if you have the settings at composite and are trying to run HDMI or component you aren't going to get a picture. you need to hook your composite cables back in, then you should get a picture when your tv is set for composite input. then go over to settings and down to display settings, change it to what you want and then hook that in to your tv.

no. Disconnect your composite cable. Have only the HDMI cable connected. While it is in standbby (off, with red light), press and hold the power button until it beeps twice. This resets the PS3 and when it comes back on it should recognize the HDMI cable. |

I haven't had this problem with my PS3...
But the first time I ever connected anything to my TV via HDMI (an upscaling DVD player, in my case) I had picture and quickly lost it. Turns out I didn't read my TV manual, which specifically said that when connecting a new piece of equipment via HDMI for the first time that the TV needs to power up before turning on anything else. I don't really know the technical ins & outs but it has something to do with digital copyright management---basically your PS3 wants to confirm through HDMI handshake that it's not connected to something that will enable you to commit piracy. |
