Default The Fountain

I just watched The Fountain last night on BD. It was beautiful! I don't know how people rate the disc PQ overall, but the photography and effects in Hi Def were just stunning.

Now, can someone tell me what the h*ll it was about?

Having seen it once and loved it, I think it's one of those that you'll have to see a few times before you really grasp it.

I got the general idea, but much of it doesn't make sense.

Death has always been something I have had a hard time dealing with...

When I was four years old my uncle died and I was very close to him...to this day i still rememeber where i was when my mother told me, and how i felt.

This movie really hit me close to the heart, and I related to it on a very personal level...

I thought it was a fantastic movie, and the PQ was awesome...

The shitty DD track however was a turn off. Some PCM would have been awesome.

the film was intentionally obscure and left open to interpretation, it's about whatever you want it to be about i guess.
personally, i think the present is the only 'real' part, whereas the 1500's is izzy's imagination put into the book she's writing, and the future (2500?) is tom's imagination where he eventually 'revives' izzy.
but my wife thought reincarnation was the plot.....

Well it’s hard to really put into words.

The movie over all deals with mortality, the fragility of life, the cycle of life, the impermanence of death.

I think the core of the film is about the research doctor, Tom, he’s a man trying to come to grips with his own fears of loss while watching his wife slowly dieing, while she’s slowly comes to grips with her own mortality. He’s dealing with the idea of mortality, the fact that everyone dies.

I’m not sure if I made any sense. The Fountain is a very hard move to put into words.

This is probably one of Hugh Jackman best performance so far. A great acting job by everyone.

Over at IMDB, User Rating is 7.7 out of 10 stars. Not bad for 25,428 votes.

I truely join this movie.

I have to agree with you there. I was really surprised at how well he acted. He really showed some skills in this movie.

I was 40 min into this when my PS3 began freezing (and every other bd I owned)....had to wind up sending it back and they sent me a new one so I didn't get to finish watching it until 2 weeks later. Great movie though!

This is what I picked up from the movie...

The bubble was a space ship...The Tree that was inside the bubble is the same tree that cured the monkey and prevented aging. That is why he kept eating some of the tree, it helped him live long enough to get to wherever he was going. Everything else was just him remembering. I saw this when it first came out so I might be a little off on some of the things, but I think it was an interesting movie.

This was a blind buy for me as I had read it was a very deep and thought-provoking movie. It certainly had some very interesting themes and I have always had an interest in Mayan lore.

Overall, I liked it. A bit slow at times. I think it might grow on me when I watch it again (the 1st time I kept drifting off, but admittedly was pretty tired). I just have to be in a particular mood and wide awake.

I also thought PQ was great and Hugh Jackman did great job of acting. Nice to see him roles outside of X-Men which I also like.

The Fountain sucked. Sorry. I NetFlix'ed this, Blood and Chocolate, and Norbit. The other two made Norbit out to be a FANTASTIC movie.

Go see SiKO and Transformers when you get a chance. Both are GREAT!

I've only seen it on SD DVD, but the next day I ordered it on BD. As I watched it, I thought it was visually the best movie I've ever seen. The way that all three time periods have intertwining visual themes, like stars and the gold tint of lights. The scene in the 1500's in the Queen's chambers where the candles look like stars was just amazing.

I think it's all supposed to be real, saying that because in the future each ring he's tattooed on himself represents a lifetime where Izzy died w/out him having the ring on, the ring that she first told him to wear in the 1500's when he drank the sap. The place he's going in the end is "shebulba," which she said the Mayans believed would lead to rebirth for the dead when the nebula went supernova (I think she said that's when they'd live forever together, but not dead sure).

Lopan, I know how you feel, and I watched it on SD DVD because a friend had it and I couldn't wait any longer.

Memnoch, I know movies all come down to personal taste, but if you read the news Sicko shouldn't surprise you (Bowling for Columbine didn't "open my eyes," as I already knew of the US's gun culture, since I don't just watch MTV. I'm not saying you do, but all the people who raved about it just weren't on top of any current events that mattered in the world.) As for Transformers, I absolutely loved the cartoon, but Michael Bay and his penchant for mindless action and product placement have turned me off this until it's available to rent. If I were younger I'd be all over it, but I just think it looks too dumb, especially w/ some of the cast.

I love this movie, its defintely emo, but a great film!
Just very dissapointed we didn't get PCM on the blu-ray.

If you like this do yourself a favor and check out Aronofsky's other films, the guy's brilliant imo

Imho The Fountain was good, but in some ways it made about as much sense as 2001: A Space Odyssey. Don't get me wrong, I really liked 2001, but both the Fountain and 2001 are very cerebral films.

Default The Fountain

I just bought The Fountain, and the box is shaped like a Blu Ray but the front cover hasn't got the sunk in embossed Blu Ray motif but just a printed one. Is this OK, it's the US version by the way.

When I put the disc into the machine it does say BD, and it certainly does look immaculate.

Could this be a fake?....

It's should be real, not all Blu-ray cases are the same. Some cases just have Blu-ray printed on them. I believe there are a few threads that talk about this.

I did search under "case" and "box" but am pretty crap at finding what I'm after when searching, thanks for the reply though.

Default The Fountain

About 9 months ago (before my PS3 purchase) I watched the movie The Fountain, as perplexed as I felt just after watching it, I was very intrigued and moved deeply by it. My order of it is on the way via Blu-ray, and I was wondering for those who have seen it, and how they felt about it's translation from Film/DVD to BD. When I say DVD, for those who saw it first on DVD, then again on Blu-ray, how did you feel about it?
