Me, i prefer individual cases for blu-rays because sometimes I don't like the way some boxed sets are designed and sometimes I find it more of a hassle taking out disks in boxed sets than movies in normal blu-ray cases. Recently I bought the Batman Anthology blu-ray boxed set that I got a good deal on and it was a little cheaper than buying those blu-rays individually. However I didn't like the design of the packaging and if the individual blu-rays were priced the same as the boxed set I would have bought them individually instead of the boxed set.

Boxsets, but only if they're 'complete' boxsets. I hate it when you buy one and then they decide to do another movie.
Case in point - Pirates of the Caribbean - originally a trilogy so you got the boxset, and then they release another one so you have the trilogy boxset AND an individual case for the new one. Bah humbug! |

I prefer individual releases over box sets. I'll actually spend more money on individual releases, just to avoid a box set. Also, if a series is released as a box set only, I'll wait for individual releases. Case in point: the Indiana Jones series--I just got the individual releases this past week, since I wanted nothing to do with the box set.

Individual cases are my favorite.
I would need a full shelf for the 39 blus in the Lost set but that would be great anyway. ![]() I may go to the trouble of replacing all the digibook, steelbook, stuff with standard cases and printed artwork… that would cost a bunch and take some time but I would love the look of everything in the same type of packaging. Edit - I have all my James Bond movies in standard cases with custom printed artwork…For those it was certainly worth the trouble. -Brian |

The newer X-Men and Wolverine set is another offender of this. Quite honestly, unless I really hate a film in the boxset, I'm going box-set over individual release. Boxsets typically have bonus exclusive content that you'll never get from the individual releases. |

Depending on if I like the film series as a whole or not or how the box set is designed.
Like for example The Halloween movies I enjoy the series as a whole and watched the entire thing fondly as a child but as an adult and seeing the series differently IMO Halloween 2 wraps up the story nicely. |

I always prefer individual cases, not only that but I choose only standard cases, i dislike digibooks, metal cases or other type of packaging. I bought Alien Egg for the egg and then i double dipped with individual releases.

It solely depends on the movie franchise. For example: The Chucky Collection. To be able to get Child's Play 2,3 and The Bride of Chucky, you'll have to purchase the boxset because those specific titles are not available separately on blu-ray as yet. Universal may release them individually later down the road. As a matter of fact, I was one of the buyers, who was fortunate to purchased The Chucky Collection for only $27.99 from Deep Discount.

However, I disagree on X-men. X-men was a true trilogy set. Wolverine is a spin off of the original series and should be treated as such. This could create a problem down the road however. When the Wolverine origins first came around I thought it would start a brand new series of "Origins" movies. Which would have been it's own set, but now it looks like they will stick with Wolverine centered movies, which will be it's own set. Hard to say exactly where it will go, but for sure the actual X-men movies are their won trilogy... and X-men First class movies will be their OWN set. You can't put them all into one giant collection simply because they share a universe. Think about Batman... no one in their right mind would put the Batman movies from the late 80's through early 2000's in the same set as the Dark Knight series simply because they are set in the same universe or have the same characters... |
