If you don't want to wait for the files to convert, you can also stream them from your Mac using PS3 Media Server. I stopped converting files and use this program now. Quick and painless and now the family doesn't have to wait.
You can find it here. If you have any files that need transcoding while streaming you may want to read the ratings section. Some people have commented that older versions of the software make that possible for Macs. They will also point you to the main site where older versions can be downloaded. Hope this helps someone out.

Do u stream wirelessly or with wire from your PC to PS3? I mean it requires a very high speed connection wirelessly maybe?

I stream through the wireless N router but that throughput is still limited by the PS3. I haven't had many issues when streaming HD video. I have, on occasion, seen a hiccup but it's not the norm and the video picks up quite quickly. I'm sure if I had it connected via wire that there would be no problems at all.

Could try tsmuxer for mac here, http://www.afterdawn.com/software/au...smuxer_mac.cfm

or here, http://www.videohelp.com/tools/tsMuxeR

I'm on PC and multiAVCHD works perfectly. http://multiavchd.deanbg.com/

And best of all it just Remuxes the container, so it takes a matter of minutes to complete. Rarther than the possible hours it would take if you use a converter.

Maverick, I'll give a try at multiAVCHD, it looks quite good.

Edit: It sucks he hosted it on RS and then they delete it, MediaFire is much better. But anyway he also has it available to download on videohelp.com (click and dl straight away).

My MediaFire Link: http://www.mediafire.com/?ru31rn3xdt703dr (v4.1 / 36.73mb)

It's really good. I've been using it for about a year. Not just for the PS3 either, it's great for authoring home videos in HD, gives a professional finish to your disc.

PS3 MS is great. However although I'm on a wired connection it lags way too much.

Also PS3 does not play any subtitles that might be in that .mkv file. You need to hardcode them which I find a bit difficult as I'd need a program to extract the .sub-file from .mkv first.

I'm using a Mac and haven't found a proper tool yet.

edit. I use Subler to 'convert' my .mkv files to .m4v. Great program and it takes only a minute or two.

You can do all that with multiAVCHD on PC, it's so easy. It's literaly a couple of mouse clicks and done extracting/adding subs.

I suppose thats the only downside to mac really is that there arent more cappable programes for this kind of job.

Yeah I know it's so simple to do pretty much anything on a PC but when you're using a Mac things get a bit more complicated.

As I said earlier I use Subler to convert .mkv to .m4v and then hardcode subs with Submerge. However if the subs are in the .mkv file I don't know how to extract them. Anyone know a program for that on Mac?

I've used mkv2vob which is pretty much just switching the container of the file, but somehow significant picture quality was lost in the transition which would make me mad...

I was told this is "impossible" but there is a stark difference between the mkv file and the vob file after the transition...and half the time it wouldn't even convert my file anyways...

If you can get a WDTV, get it. It will play any file format from 4801 to 1080p. Really impresive and not that expensive. Just my $.02.
