Next Chronicles of Narnia movie to be The Magicians Nephew?
Quote:
Although The Voyage of the Dawn Treader made $400 million worldwide, it was slightly lower than Prince Caspian‘s $420 million (which in turn was lower than the $745 million made by the first movie). Despite this downward trend at the box office the Narnia franchise is still profitable, and Walden Media co-founder and president Michael Flaherty recently revealed a fourth movie was in the works, but it won’t be The Silver Chair, the fourth book.
Instead, Walden and Fox are talking about making The Magician’s Nephew which was the sixth book published and is a prequel to The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe. From The Christian Post (via Coming Soon):
“We are starting to talk to Fox and talk to the C.S. Lewis estate now about the Magician’s Nephew being our next film,” Flaherty said. “If we can all agree to move forward, then what we would do is find someone to write the script. So, it could still be a couple of years.”
“I love the Magician’s Nephew because it’s a great origins story. You get to learn so much about where the wardrobe came from, where the lamppost came from, where Narnia came from,” he said.
Here’s the synopsis of The Magicians Nephew, which is the second most popular book in the Narnia series:
When Digory and Polly are tricked by Digory’s peculiar Uncle Andrew into becoming part of an experiment, they set off on the adventure of a lifetime. What happens to the children when they touch Uncle Andrew’s magic rings is far beyond anything even the old magician could have imagined.
Hurtled into the Wood between the Worlds, the children soon find that they can enter many worlds through the mysterious pools there. In one world they encounter the evil Queen Jadis, who wreaks havoc in the streets of London when she is accidentally brought back with them. When they finally manage to pull her out of London, unintentionally taking along Uncle Andrew and a coachman with his horse, they find themselves in what will come to be known as the land of Narnia.
Going in this direction with the Narnia franchise will require an entirely new cast, with the exception of Aslan and the White Witch. Are Narnia fans happy in seeing The Magicians Nephew next, or would you rather see The Silver Chair?
