Default Which would you prefer your PS3 Game Collection: Digital vs. Physical?

I think there can be some arguments made for each one, with each having it's own pros and cons.

Myself, I prefer to have the PS3 games in digital format on the PS3. Having physical copies are all well and good, I just think that it's beneficial to have digital copies, not just because of the wear on the optical drive, but also I think it's simply more convenient.

Plus there's no chance your discs get damaged and unplayable, and if your PS3 crashes or you have to get a new one, your games are stored on the servers.

Sadly monetarily it's just not feasible, with many games that are available for 10-15 bucks in physical copy, are 20-30 dollars on the PSN, with some newer games listed at 60 bucks for a digital copy).

now the only SERIOUS con I see (which is admittedly a huge one) if one day the Sony servers get hacked or go down or permanently shut down or whatever, then those games are lost for good.

What the odds of that happening, I don't know.

Well I was thinking in the "perfect world" situation where that's not an issue, just what would you prefer, to have all your games on disc or all your games on the PS3?

Physical for sure. I sometimes let family borrow games plus if it's a game I no longer play then i could just sell it.

Well if a "perfect world" means unlimited HDD space and instant downloads on up to 5 PS3s, then maaaaybe all digital.

I'd still take physical. Even if I had unlimited space, instant download, and the same price point. I like holding a physical thing in my hand so that I can see where my money went.

Then when I don't need/want that physical thing anymore I can sell it.

If your perfect world extends to Sony doing buy-backs of digital games I'd still prefer to hold the game/box/packaging in my hand.

Physical for trading purposes and also renting, actually all purposes.
I will always be against digital only media.
I want my movies, games and yes even music(I know I am one of the few that still buy cds) on physical media.
To me there are more negatives to all digital media then positives.

I like to have the choice.

But as much as I usually go for physical, I can't pretend it isn't handy having Infamous on my hard drive as well as the other freebies Sony recently handed out.

I've also just rented a film from PSN for this weekend and I do find that very convenient. That said I buy my favourite films on blu-ray and prefer to have the disc.

So, for now I like the choice, I'd hate to lose that choice though. Price is still a key issue here, it continues to amaze me how expensive downloads are compared to their retail counterparts, when the saving to the publisher must be enormous. For instance, how on earth is Infamous 2 available on PSN for £50? FIFTY QUID! I can buy it for over £10 less in the shops, let alone online.

It does seem to be a case of them trying to keep retail happy by not undercutting them by too much; hence film rentals on PSN are similar in price to Blockbusters and games don't often come much cheaper than games shops, even when they are old.

One of the Harry Potter films, to buy on PSN, is over £20 when you can buy it on blu-ray for nearly half that! It sometimes feels like they don't want you to take up the download option...

With music I tend to buy singles as 320k MP3 files, but I'd buy an album on CD

This is a physical world so we need physical media. I would hate to spend $60 on a digital download and not be able to sell it when I'm finished with the game. If everything went digital, then it would be heaven for hackers.
