Gotta say I'm loving the designs of Madman releases of late!

I'm so envious that you work in the industry!

Finally, a version without forced French subtitles! If the transfer is good and it won't get a UK release for a while, I'll import this. Jarmusch is one of my favourites.

its completely f--ked up that this is R 18 rated. Jesus there's nothing R rated about this movie and the film is pretty slow, my god its like an old movie from the 40s.
it just never grw on me and i did try to like it. i saw it at the movies just coz when it came out there was a call from some ppl to ban it or it escape a ban.. the poster even said "the movie they tried to ban" for what?
I even think that Ken Park and Base Moi should get released.. my god Salo is on dvd /bd that was banned for a long time..

For those that haven't seen the film I've placed what happens in the film in spoiler tags.

A
[Show spoiler]bounty hunter cannibalises a man, a guys head gets squashed on screen, there's some gore and a woman is forced to perform a sexual act at gunpoint
(this was the reason for the initial ban). You're telling me that somebody
[Show spoiler]caving a guy's head in with their boot
on screen isn't high level violence?

Just because you might not find it overly violent doesn't mean the rating shouldn't apply. This film approaches violence casually and in a darkly comical manner. It's both ridiculous and horrific at the same time and that's the point of it.

The OFLC often approaches ratings based on the brutality of the violence and not necessarily how much blood is spilt or how many instances of violence are in the film. A lot of people seem to get mixed up on that. You can kill 100 zombies by shotgun and that will get you an MA but because they're not human it's not as horrific as one person
[Show spoiler]stepping on someone's head and literally caving it in like a watermelon
for little reason.

One small instance of severe brutality instantly puts it up into the the R category. If that shot wasn't in the film I'd expect an MA (or M at the time of release).

I think it deserves it's R rating!

So how is the video quality and audio?

Good question, I'd like to know as well. I want to see the film again, but I am not paying $35 for it which is what my local JB wants.

^ Well all of what I described is certainly in the film. If you don't recall those scenes then that may be why your general impression is that it shouldn't be rated R.

People actually walked out of the cinema when I saw it, and my missus felt sick in the stomach at the head splitting open.

For those of us patiently waiting for this release the good news is that it appears Madman has scheduled it (again!) for a release on May 18. Let's hope it arrives this time!
