I used to watch this as a little kid constantly....one of my first melodramas I couldn't get enough of.

That gave me a good chuckle.

Yeah it's sappy and syrupy, but I've had a soft spot for it ever since seeing it as an impressionable kid 41 years ago.

Since then I've spent some time with friends in that part of the country so I can relate in even more immediate ways.

LHJ is cute. Tom Skeritt is always a pleasure to see. Even Benson's character is sympathetic and likable.

It also has a pleasant Hamlisch score.

So, yeah. I don't mind admitting I'll be getting this.

I remember that my father and I were watching Ice Castles on HBO during the early 1980s when I was nine or 10 years old. I was enjoying the film, but my father, who has always been a hugely devout Christian, disapproved of all of the foul language. About halfway through the film, he decided that enough was enough, and changed the channel, because he did not like my hearing all of that profanity at a young age.

So...

I guess that I'll finally get to see the second half of this film now.

Interesting that you should say that, Owl. I just started reading up on the National League of Decency and their list of condemned movies (think the Video Nasties, less officially sanctioned by the government, but throwing the weight of the church behind it) and Ice Castles was one of the ones they condemned.

Sadly I've not been able to find the criteria for what counts towards condemning a movie tho.

Hope it's a new master and not the disastrously cropped one (2.35 -- the movie is not widescreen and should be 1.85) they put out on streaming.
