Default Bursting Some Bubbles

High def media exists for one reason and one reason alone. To make the most money possible. I am all for a better experience when watching or listening to anything, but being an artist is second to doing business. The format war makes it clear that whomever wins gets rich. Licensing fees make a lot of money.

HD-DVD and Blu-Ray are both jokes. "Regular" DVD is more than enough for anyone. Take a survey of your relatives and find some answeres. Don't ask you computer buddies. Ask your father, or grandmother if they even know what high-def is. Then sit down and explain the difference between 1920x1080p and 720x480i. You don't need high-def to make a good movie and high-def doesn't make a crappy movie good. Do some research why the porn industry isn't interested in high-def. You'll find a nice answere. Also explain to your folks why the movie industry is making 24bit 192khz audio when 48khz suffices. Why make the entire population buy all their movies again when less than 1% can actually tell. One person wants something and 99 other people pay for it.

The only application these discs may have a use for is data storage. Even then, how much beyond a standard DVD does anyone need? Besides bootleggers and corporations who needs that much room?

The fact is that high-def is just another way for them to make money. Entertainment is secondary. All I wish to inform is this fact and to pose the questions why do we need this? What format is next? Will it ever stop? How many times to you want to buy the same movie? Consider saving some $$ for retirement instead of spending thousands on this new format.
