Default Post your DVD double dips...

These are my latest upgrades to Blu. I have a couple of friends who I gift my DVDs to.

These ones will be off to new homes soon. I am waiting for the BDs to arrive in the mail.

This is one example of where I am keeping the DVD in my collection. At present they do not have a Dawn Of The Dead set on BD with all three versions of the film.

These are a few that I have upgraded but I have already moved the DVDs onto their new homes. Note, the last HD-DVD to be replaced...

Thanks to Forgotten Films I will have a much better example of this awesome flick:

I still own 115 of my Blu-Rays on DVD. Some of those are triple and quadruple dips, considering I bought multiple DVD versions of some. For instance, I've bought Gladiator four times over the past ten years, beginning with the VHS copy back when it was first released. I was slow to switch, I didn't buy a DVD player until 2002.

I'm sure I'll eventually replace all my DVDs with the Blu-Ray, but it'll probably be some time until films like Gunga Din and The Big Sleep are released!

Hey joelo...

How much better is SinCity on Blu versus DVD? That might be one of my next upgrades. The DVD looks pretty spiffy upscaled.

I think the Sin City blu ray looks amazing if it helps in your decision.

Yes, the Blu-ray Sin City is amazing. It is the best it possible can look right now. They did a great job. The DVD is good but the Blu-ray is awesome. I wouldn't even second guess double dippin on that one.

Thanks for the feedback (Celtic Fan too).

That makes it a no-brainer for me then. The only question there is whether to get the regular release or the steelbook.

For the first year during which I was collecting Blu-Rays, I typically sold my DVDs on Amazon Marketplace for $6-10 to recoup the cost of upgrading.

Now, I make more money and I generally just haul my old DVDs to my father whenever I see him. He doesn't mind.

BRs are also pretty cheap these days (for the thrifty/patient shopper); for example in the past few days I can recall buying 9 Blu-Rays for approximately $85 and receiving several as birthday presents. Now I'm waiting for a $25 credit to Amazon from my credit card rewards to arrive in the mail so I can snatch up a pair of Digibooks for under $15 total.

I give the DVDs that I double dip on to my dad and brother or friends when I see them...

So far my list:

Almost Famous (mainly because I had the theatrical cut and wnated the bootleg.)
Blade Runner
Braveheart
A Clockwork Orange
The Dark Knight
The Departed
Fight Club
Forrest Gump
The Godfather Collection
Goodfellas
Heat
L.A. Confidential
The Prestige
Pulp Fiction
Raging Bull
The Shining

Plan:
The Crow
The Deer Hunter
Full Metal Jacket

Possible (I don't have a problem with the DVD release but I hear these Blus are good):
Band of Brothers
Saving Private Ryan
No Country for Old Men
The Thin Red Line
There Will Be Blood

This will be interesting. I haven't bothered to tabulate it before.

Akira
Doubt
Ghost in the Shell
Gran Torino
Harry Potter 1-5
Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
Juno
Kill Bill 1&2
Monty Python's Life of Brian
Office Space
Pan's Labyrinth
Persepolis
Pirates of the Caribbean 1
Reservoir Dogs
Sin City
Superbad
Wall-E
The Wrestler
X-Men
X2
xXx

Didn't count Grindhouse since the DVDs I have of Planet Terror and Death Proof are both the extended cuts.

I do plan on upgrading the rest of my DVDs as they release/I find good prices.

I would say probably about 40% of my blu-ray collection are moves I owned on DVD up until recently. The only DVDs I kept in my collection are those that aren't out or slated to come out on blu-ray soon enough for me to live without them.
