I have the 73740 and the settings should be similar so try pic mode natural, contrast 63, brightness 60, color 40, tint 31, sharpness 31, color temp low, video noise med

Sometimes it's just depends on what channel your watching. When I watch two and a half men on FX it looks like crap but on another channel it looks fine.

Quick question; does it matter if u use HDMI 1.4 or not, because I'm using 1.3 for my cable box and it looks TERRIBLE

That wouldn't make that big of a difference in your picture quality.

Your receiver's video processing won't make a day and night difference in how the picture is being displayed. An HDMI cable is an HDMI cable, also. It either works or it doesn't.

You said your cable looks like crap, but your PS3 doesn't look any better? That is odd. My Panasonic VT30 looks like a 6/10 on cable (decent picture, depending on channel) , but a 10/10 on Blu-ray, big difference for me.

If you have tried absolutely everything and are still unhappy with the picture being produced by your TV, I would say it's probably just the quality of your TV. You will either have to live with it or return it if it is still under a 30-day warranty of some kind. Though, that is truly going to suck returning an 82inch DLP....

I have an older 73" Mits. The settings already listed are fairly accurate, but I have sharpness at 0 and video noise to off, or low, whatever the lowest setting is. Sharpness and any noise filtering usually adds a grainy quality that looks like poo. Those settings were set using the DVE Blu-ray.
