Hello all - Just got a Panasonic 60gt30 from yesterday. I'm loving it, but I already have a question for rest of you:
I've noticed what looks like slight backlight bleed in the top right corner of the screen. I know this is technically impossible (since plasmas have no backlight), but what I'm describing kind of looks like a smaller version of the "flashlight" I have in one of the corners of my LCD. The main difference is that the lighter portions seem to be more confined to the edges of the screen (top right and right side), but not completely. Is this typical for these plasmas? One of the reasons I went with plasma this time was to get a uniform screen. I thought that was a given. Will this problem fix itself as the panel ages? Any help you all can give would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance! |

Having been able to look at this further, I've concluded that the issue isn't confined to the one corner, but it exists along all the edges of the TV. Basically, it appears that the 1/2 inch area around the the screen edges looks just slightly brighter than the inner portion of the screen. I see most it when the screen is all black. This might be a normal plasma thing; or then again, it might be in my head. Maybe you all can help. Anyway, I've attached some a picture of one corner if anyone wants to take a look at it. I'm not sure it turned out that well. Thanks for your help.

Hi, does it happen on all source's to tv (Blu-Ray, HD Cable Station, SD Cable Station) There is a adjustment in settings for most TV's you can adjust the screen to view full pixel +1 or +2. I had the problem that you are describing only on some cable station's in HD and only on the bottom of my screen. Had tv set screen adjustment to full pixel and reset to +1 and problem is gone. Hope this helps.

There are 2 settings in the menu for HD and SD picture size. I think you have your TV set for the 100%, pixel for pixel display and perhaps a setting other than FULL for size. Just make sure that your settings ( under ASPECT ADJUSTMENTS ) are set to FULL screen, and then switch between SIZE 1 and SIZE 2 to make the bright edges disappear. Some material shown at pixel for pixel does not fill the screen, especially some SD and/or 4:3 programs.

Thanks everyone for the help! Sorry the picture was not that helpful and that it was hard to see anything. Perhaps that's because there's nothing to see...?
I should let you all know that I noticed this issue while watching Blu-rays on my PS3, particularly when watching movies shot in 2:35:1. Would changing between size 1 and size 2 affect anything in those conditions? |

Wanted to provide an update on the issue above: So I had a tech out to replace my A-Board (FBr issue totally resolved). While he was there, I had him check out my edge-brightness problem. He definitely noticed it and said it should not be doing that. Unfortunately, he had never seen my problem before. He called his local Panasonic rep who is coming to look at it later this week. Hopefully, he'll know of a quick fix or just authorize a replacement panel. I'll keep you all posted.
One additional related question: While watching 2:35:1 films, I've noticed that the "bars" at the top are filled with whitish-greenish noise when viewed real close. Is this normal, or does it point to other trouble(s) with my panel? The greenish noise is not present in any dark portions within the actual movie picture. Thanks. |
