Default 2011 - The Greatest Year Ever for Blu-Ray?

The floodgates have opened and all the titles I've ever wished for are making their way to Blu this year. For me, this is the greatest year ever for Blu-Ray:

Star Wars Saga
Jurassic Park Trilogy
The Crow
Pulp Fiction
Lion King
Out of Sight
The Fisher King
Scream
Incredibles
Desperado
When Harry Met Sally...
Blues Brothers
West Side Story
Frighteners
Big Lebowski
Bad Boys II
Lord of the Rings: Extended Editions

...just to name a few. There are many, many , many more. And that's not even mentioning all of the actual 2011 films also being released on blu this year.

So... 2011: Greatest Year Ever? Discuss...

Yeah I would have to agree with you. Star Wars, The Crow, and Lion King are three of my all-time favorite movies. So those three alone make 2011 one of the greatest year for blu-rays. I bolded the ones I like on your list. Other notable titles that have been released in 2011 or will be released soon:
Stand by Me
Dances With Wolves
Rain Man
Michael Jordan to the Max(personal one for me)
Superman Anthology
Bambi
Taxi Driver
Tron
Halloween II
Nightmare on Elm Street 2/3
Conan The Barbarian
Dumbo
Scarface
Fox and the Hound
Platoon
The Color Purple
Good Will Hunting
Boyz N' Da hood
A Beautiful Mind
Alice in Wonderland(animated)
Space Jam
United 93

and again as you mentioned all the other movies that were in theaters in 2011 and that will be released in the upcoming months.

I would put it as "2011 - The Greatest Year So Far for Blu-Ray" instead.

But that's just it - I can't see any other year rivaling it. Of course, I'd love to be wrong
There's a few heavy hitters still out there - Indy Jones, ET, Titanic, Abyss, True Lies, Jaws, Schindler, Nemo, some Disney Classics... and plenty of smaller stuff. So if all those came out in the same year (unlikely), it'd be a close call, but otherwise 2011 will probably stand.

Nah - Star Wars and LOTR just crap all over everything else once the dust settels. Its not even close. Throw in the first two Alien films and its a slam dunk.

Hell - they could stop releasing catalog titles at the end of 2011 and I wouldnt even care that much.

2011: Best year ever in the world ever for any media format ever.

Uh, hello?--Alice, Bambi, Nausicaa and Tron:Classic within a space of three months?

...Nah, Star Wars still trumps it.
Took a lot longer for it to get to DVD.

It could also be the most disheartening year ever...though not a 2011 title, Fantasia's December 2010 bow seems to have set a tone for disappointment (speaking for myself, mind you) and then came the ongoing controversey over Fellowship of the Ring: Extended (another long-sought title) and now rumors swirl that the upocoming Star Wars Blu-Rays are struck from the old 2004 DVD masters. If that's true, talk about three kicks to the babymakers in the last 28 weeks.

Excluding the first Jurassic Park and Stand by Me that looks pretty average to me. If they had released The Gate or even The Monster Squad I would have been much more impressed.

Whichever year we see the Indy trilogy will be the best year for BD.

I'm STILL waiting for Touch of Evil, The Bicycle Thief, Singin' in the Rain and Naked Gun. Then, personally, it will be the greatest year.

If that honestly turns out to be true that will be the most pathetic thing ever.
I mean I just don't believe that will happen.
as far as the "best year for blu-ray"--imo it will be the year when Sony gets off their ass and starts releasing the Columbia classics from the 30's and 40's and 50's; when Disney gets off their ass and starts releasing their classic live action titles that are so long overdue for bd it's ridiculous; when Universal gets off their ass and starts releasing the monster classics from the 30's and 40's; when Paramount gets off their ass and starts releasing more classics from the 40's and 50's; when Fox gets off their ass and starts releasing the Marilyn Monroe films, more Rodgers and Hammerstein musicals and more classics from the 40's and 50's.
THAT will be the best year in bd.
will it ever happen?
not looking good imo.

Touch Of Evil, The Bicycle Thieves, and Naked Gun are all announced for 2011 in the UK, so yes. (Bicycle Thieves is already out)

I don't see 2011 as 'the greatest year for Blu-ray"
There are still massive amounts of catalog titles (Disney Treasures, Warner Brothers 1930s Gangster films, 1940's noir, Blaxploitation films, that haven't seen any release. Plus with profits for disc sales being much lower than the DVD says, studios are just not anxious to get those out on blu
