Default SGA: The Complete Series First Impressions

So I received my Stargate Atlantis BDs yesterday and sat down to watch the first disc. Watched the pilot and third episode.

So here are my first impressions:
  • The picture is fantastic. Great transfer on the live action shots and many of the CG elements (looked natural and not DNRed to death). Although I'm not sure if the source was already digital and didn't really need a transfer.
  • Many CG shots looked upscaled and badly at that as the "jaggies" and other distracting elements can be clearly seen. Mainly on the city of Atlantis on panning and pullaway shots. It's too bad because they did a hell of a job on the CG especially the water shots. What's interesting is I never noticed this when the episodes were broadcast on TV so I'm wondering if they over did it on things like DNR and edge enhancement on the CG shots.
  • Audio was disappointing in regards to the low end. There was hardly any low end going on. I had to actually double check to make sure nothing was wrong with my subwoofer. That opening shot in the pilot could have been even more powerful if it shook the room, but I suppose they really didn't have the resources to redo some of the audio mixing which is a shame.
  • No episode chapters? The first 3 episodes only had chapters at the beginning and end and none during the episodes which I found horrible. I hope the remaining episodes aren't like this or this is a huge screw up in my opinon.

So how about you? What were your first impressions?
