I've been looking forward to this one! The turnaround time has been an eternity by China/HK standards.

So far, this is the best Hong Kong film I've seen this year and probably one of Andy Lau's best performances for a long time. Definitely getting the blu-ray.

Okay. This was my Easter Sunday movie and WOW what a great film! The cast is great with Andy Lau at the top of his game. I was moved to tears several times during the film.

-Picture looks great! I didn't see anything that took me out of the picture.
-Audio-wise I'm stuck with TV speakers in my Macau apartment so I can't comment. I'm definitely going to give this movie another spin with my surround system when I return to the States next week. I don't expect any problems because even with the two TV speakers, it sounded great with no distortions.
-It sucks to be a horse in this movie.
-There are two English Subtitle options in the menu. One for the Cantonese track and one for the Mandarin. I went with the Cantonese option. The subtitles are generally good but there are grammatical errors and spelling issues on occasion. I had to go back a couple of times to re-read something because the titles weren't on screen long enough.
-Opening text is subtitled as well as the temple sign (before and after).
-No watermark unless it was so subtle that I missed it.
-Two discs. One a Blu-Ray (the feature) and the other a DVD (the extras). The DVD has several featurettes, trailers, making of's and a bunch of deleted scenes. The DVD is Region 3. There are no extras on the Blu-Ray. It's 50 gigs are saved for the movie itself.

I highly recommend picking this up.

How was the action and how was it filmed? I heard that the action scenes are very short. That doesn't bother me as long as they are filmed well and not MTV quick cut style.

This seemed worthy of a repost from the other thread:

Well Go has picked this up for US distro, which means sometime this summer we'll get a theatrical release with a Blu-ray following closely. Well GO haven't licensed any of the horse tripping movies (Warlords, etc.) before, so I don't know if we have to look for cuts with that edition.

Horse-tripping is the new no-no? I definitely agree that it's worse than head-butts (I never understood why the UK or Australia censored the head-butts in films). Is it considered painful or sadistic for horses to take a tumble in films like this? It does look like it hurts the horse....

MPAA typically dont penalize horse trips, atleast to my observation. Well Go might just release it unrated. well they should anyway...

its good news.

Horse falls are a no-no for the BBFC, which is why the film will be censored in the UK. BBFC has a very strict policy about animal cruelty/stunts.

They don't have to release it unrated. Horse falls aren't that big of a deal to the MPAA as far as I know. Warlords was pre-cut for international distribution, so the film with the falls wasn't even shown to the MPAA. I would think this will rate no higher than R.

Ur 100% correct. Im pretty sure Well Go USA will release it uncut. "Original, uncut, undubbed international version" is part of their pitch after all! I thought about importing the HK version but now, I'll think I'll wait for the US version. Well Go's discs are pretty flippin affordable!

Yes. It's a drama more than an action film. The action scenes are both at times. Some filmed well with long takes and a some with quick cuts but nothing that will cause seizures or overdone (if that makes sense).
